1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 – owned by Ferdinand Porsche’s daughter

From time to time we come across cars with an interesting ownership history, usually something owned by a famous athlete or actor, or the occasional car owned by a highly-regarded builder or racing driver. This car here, however, a 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4, painted in a very subtle Silver Purple Metallic, takes all of that to a different level. This particular 964 was the car built for Dr. Ferdinand Porsche’s daughter, Louise Piëch, which gives it a cool factor that is difficult to surpass. Of course, some buyers care little for these sorts of details, and as such this probably isn’t the car for them, but at least it provides other interesting details like a rarely seen exterior color and unique interior trim. All of these things combine to make this Carrera 4 a car that clearly is set apart from the pack.

1989 Porsche 930 Slantnose Coupe – REVISIT

The 1989 Porsche 930 Slantnose Coupe we featured in early October is back up for sale with a $10K reduction in its price, now listed at $189,999.99. The Slantnose 911s do not appeal to everyone, but as a symbol of ’80s flair and excess they are rarely topped. Even with significant collector appeal it will be interesting to see if the market for one of these has reached these heights.

1989 Volkswagen Transporter DoKa

$_57 (2)

Most of the DoKas we see come with a healthy patina and air of “roughing it.” Today’s is more an exercise in German modification, and wouldn’t be out of place carrying some baddies in Run Lola Run. With a redone interior, pickup bed cover, and newish black paint over late-model Jetta wheels, there’s nothing utilitarian about this. The interior does look decent (if you can handle the orange accents), but the GPS system currently only has European maps on it. That kind of caveat seems to be a theme here, making it funny in a very German way.

Motorsports Monday: 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo

Without a doubt, for many years my favorite sleeper deal in the realm of factory Porsche race cars was the 944 Turbo Cup. Constructed for one-make support races around the world, the Turbo Cup model has some really neat features – notably, the inclusion of a healthy amount of magnesium to help lighten the car, plus a bit more boost to motivate it. For some time, 944 Turbo Cups were just downright cheap for a full factory racer, but recently they’ve spiked up in value and are now pretty much out of the reach of most mortals. Of course, if you’re willing to forgo the factory Cup build status and a few of the more pricey magnesium details like the original wheels, you can still find great track or race bargains in the 944 Turbo:

1989 Porsche 930 Targa

In my write-up of the previous Turbo Targa we featured I mentioned that the only way to further the collector desirability of that car was if it were a 1989MY 930. Lo and behold, we have just such a machine here. To be fair, the previous Turbo Targa was very low mileage, while this one is nearing six-figures, so a market comparison cannot be made directly between the two, but as the only year the 930 came equipped with a 5-speed transmission the ’89 models have garnered a significant premium over earlier years. Stylistically the Turbo Targa is a reflection of the ’80s with wild lines and prodigious power. They are rarely the prettiest 911s as the tea-tray spoiler juts away from the Targa’s expansive rear greenhouse, but they still possess the ferocity of the 930 Coupe while providing a measure of open-top freedom. The example we see here is a Guards Red over Black 1989 Porsche 930 Targa, located in Texas, with 92,352 miles on it.
