There’s been a lot of interesting BMWs over the last two decades that have captured my attention, but one car that always sticks out in my mind is the E36 M3 sedan. Sold in the US for two years only, this was a tidy looking four-door. While it was down on power from its Euro market counterpart, 240 horsepower from the S52 inline-6 was nothing to sneeze at, at the time. The first time I got behind the wheel of one of these sports sedans, it left such an indelible mark that over 15 years later, I still remember it as one of the tightest, well-balanced sports cars I’ve had the pleasure of driving. This M3 Sedan for sale in New Jersey has under 50,000 miles on the clock and is equipped with the preferred 5-speed manual gearbox, to make the most of what this 4-door has to offer.

There are always going to be cars that will grab my attention more than others and this is one of those cars. The design of the 993 is such that I have always loved the wider bodied versions over the narrow bodies. Make that wider-body a Carrera 2S, rather than the 4S, and I’m going to take notice a little more. From there we venture into more subjective territory. The C2S itself has garnered widespread appreciation for many of the same reasons I am so fond of them: they have the wider Turbo rear, but have retained the traditional 911 rear-drive layout. What strikes me about this one is the aero package. I have always been a whale tail fan on the 911, but the tail on the 993 Turbo never quite sat right with me. The modified version of that tail that came as part of the aero kit for the standard Carrera moves the design back in the direction of the original tea tray of the 930 and I find it to be a much more appealing design. It isn’t the proper whale tail, which for the 993 I only recall being available as one of the options on the Carrera RS, but it still works some great magic on the 993’s body. I’ll admit this feature is more subjective than some others, but overall I am really drawn to this 911: an Arena Red 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 2S, located in Tennessee, with 77,300 miles on it.

4 CommentsWithout a doubt, Wagon Week is one of our favorite features here at German Cars For Sale Blog, and while there are plenty of desirable, big name Avants, Tourings and Estates that grab the headlines and generate the “likes” on Myface or Spacebook or Instaselfie or whatever, if I’m honest I’m always a fan of the underdog Passat Variant. Perhaps it’s because I’ve owned two, perhaps it’s because it’s the less common choice; I’m not entirely certain. True, the Passat isn’t the best performing wagon out there, and I’d concede that it’s not the best looking or best made one either. But in terms of the performance you can get in a stealthy, good looking package on a budget, I think that the Passat may be the real sleeper in the German wagon realm. But the positive aspects of the Passats aren’t unknown to all; the Quantum Syncro is always a popular if rarely seen ’80s icon for the company, and when we got to the Golf-based B3 and B4, there were some cool options too – such as the not-for-the-U.S. G60 Syncro. But even in the U.S., the B4 offered some neat performance options for the wagon aficionado – interestingly, in very different directions. Check the “GLX” option on your order form and you’d get the torquey, great sounding VR6 engine and BBS wheels in a sporty package. Check the “TDi” option, and you had a hyper-miler capable of over a thousand miles on a tank of gas. Yet while both have their niche markets, finding good examples of each can be quite difficult. Today we have one of each to compare, and I think it makes for an interesting showdown. Will either hit the $11,000 mark of the last B4 Variant we looked at?

Comments closedYou wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts. Here we have a paint-to-sample Riviera Blue 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Montreal, with 21,465 miles on it. It is beautiful and head-turning in a way that only a pastel colored 993TT can be. It’s stunning. It also has an asking price that is more than $349,000! It’s a reserve auction so we do not know exactly what that asking price might be, but since the seller has set the starting bid at $349,000 then we know it is above that number. Yeah. This isn’t the craziest asking price I’ve come across on a 993 and if you were ever going to set your price in the stratosphere, then a Riviera Blue Turbo is just the sort of car to attract the right kind of attention. Still, it’s too high, but everyone needs a little insanity in their life now and then.
