Age, as they say, is but a number. And so it goes sometimes with cars that we come across here at GCFSB. We’ve seen some vehicles with well over six digit mileage that stagger the mind with their immaculate condition. Such is the case with this 2004 BMW 330i ZHP for sale in Massachusetts. This car has passed the 150k mile mark but looks as crisp as when it left the showroom. Chalk it up to one fastidious owner who follows the folks over at ZHP Mafia, a site dedicated to the performance package offered on E46 sedans, coupes and convertibles for a few years.

It’s been a few weeks since my last 10K Friday entry, and I wanted to get something together for the impending snow New England is once again expecting. To remind us of the terms of the comparison, I’m looking for themed cars around $10,000 (give or take, we’ll see later). I try to generally find the newest cars possible, figuring that for many these will be a daily driver. In this case, I was looking for performance all-wheel drive cars that offered year round practicality with a touch of sport. So lining up the best I could find from Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Porsche gives us an interesting amount of diversity for your hard-earned dollars. Today we have two sedans, a hatchback, a wagon and a S.U.V. to contemplated; which is the winner?

For most people owning a 911 falls into the same category as traveling the world on yacht with the Pirelli calendar girls, you’d love for it to happen but it’s highly unlikely. For the briefest of moments some of us regular folks could go out and scoop up a 911 SC or 964 at a relatively reasonable price, but thanks to the internet, that ship has sailed. These days there’s only one generation of 911 left where the cost of admission to the “Stuttgart Originals†club is within reach, the 996.
Mention this particular era 911 to most enthusiasts and you’ll get a mighty big eye roll. Lackluster design, frumpy interior, unreliable components, that’s just some of the shade that get’s thrown at the 911’s built from 1998-2004. While I will agree that the exterior design is not my favorite, it’s still better looking than 90% of the vehicles on the road.
The interior is devoid of all the creature comforts we’ve become accustomed to in today’s cars but is that really such a bad thing? These cars we’re built with the intended purpose of enjoying piloting them, do you really need a vehicle that’ll read your text messages and tell you showtimes for Taken 3?

2 CommentsLest I trick some of our readers into thinking its some kind of SUV week around here at GCFSB, we’ll follow on to the X5 4.6is we featured on Monday with that truck’s successor, the X5 4.8is. 2004 would bring a facelift for the first generation X5, which would be exiting stage right in 2006. But BMW decided to have one more go at the über SUV formula by jamming almost 5.0 liters of V8 under the hood, good for 355 bhp. While the black 4.6is we saw on Monday was a bit stealth, you won’t miss this Imola Red 4.8is if it was coming at you.
