Anyone well familiar with the collector Porsche market undoubtedly knows that a lot of the demand that has been responsible for recent price increases comes from Germany. Over the past few years, many of the nicest concours condition examples of 928’s for sale in the U.S. have been purchased by German collectors. The rationale is that it is much harder to find an immaculate example in Europe, as fewer were sold there and therefore fewer collector quality cars with low mileage exist in that market.

Well, this is one of the few European 928 GTS’s that would certainly appear to qualify as a “concoursable” car. With approximately 8,600 miles, this GTS is one of the lowest mileage example’s I’ve seen for sale since I began following the 928 market eight years ago. In addition, I’d imagine that being a single owner German spec car will make this example particularly attractive to German collectors.

Here is a beautiful 1993 928 GTS. As you know, mint GTS’s fetch a pretty penny on the rare occasion that they come up for sale. In fact, I’d say that this is certainly the most pristine example to come up for sale publicly this year in the United States (that Midnight Blue ’95 5-speed in Germany that we featured about a month ago would be the nicest worldwide).

This particular example comes with a somewhat monochrome color combination of Polar Silver Metallic over Classic Grey leather. Breaking up the monotony is the eye catching red piping and rootwood shift lever, which were extremely rare options on GTS’s. Additional rare options featured on this GTS include Porsche crests in the headrests and a leather shift boot. It’s hard to tell if the luggage cover is also leather.

A quick search on the 928 Registry indicates that this car was last for sale at Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas in 2002 when it had around 16K miles. According to the Carfax, it has lived in Florida, Nevada, and has been in Pennsylvania since the 2002 sale. I spoke to a very nice salesman at Marshall Goldman who informed me that the asking price is $89,900. Although that price does set (I believe) a new ceiling for automatic 1993 GTS’s, I’d say that this car is certainly worthy of it.

Now here is quite possibly the best 1995 928 GTS in the world. Originally an American car, this example has spent the past three years with a Porsche collector in Germany. Before being bought by the collector, it was owned by a major 928 enthusiast who was responsible for creating the 928 Registry; a resource that has become invaluable to 928 owners and prospective buyers looking to research the history of particular 928’s. He was the second owner, and purchased it from the original owner back in 2000 in Orlando, Florida. The second owner sold the GTS back in 2012 to the German collector for (I believe) $107,500.

Now, you may think that the asking price is somewhat absurd, but you will probably never find a GTS in this condition ever again, anywhere. Since the supply of mint 928 GTS 5-speeds is small and fixed, it doesn’t take much demand to make prices go “sky high.” Also, in the world of collectible Porsche’s, $132,000 (the approximate equivalent of 125.500 euro’s) isn’t that much. Furthermore, this is one of only 30 1995 928 GTS five-speeds originally sent to the United States. With a quick search on the 928 Registry, it is one of 9 1995 North American GTS’s painted in Midnight Blue, and one of only 5 5-speeds. Also, according to the registry, it is one of only eight (probably fewer) 1995 5-speeds with under 20,000 original miles.
