Typically when we make a fuss about a car’s mileage it’s because it’s some insanely low-mileage garage queen or barn find. While we may all wonder how the owner could have such a great car and never drive it, the collectors go in a frenzy for the chance at such a rare time capsule. We see a lot of those cars; they’re neat to see.

This one probably is actually more rare. Start with one of the rarest models Porsche has produced: the 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Flatnose. Only 76 in total were produced worldwide with only 39 making it to the US. Then drive it. Then keep driving it. And drive it some more. Over the first ten years of its life this Turbo S was driven seemingly how any other car would have been driven putting on an average of around 14K miles per year. That’s your typical daily driver. Can you imagine the immense joy that would come from having such a car as your daily driver?

I’ll say straightaway that I have a couple questions about this 1993 Porsche 911 RS America. I also think it’s priced a good bit too high, though that’s a problem with a lot of RS Americas we see come up for sale. We’ll get to those questions though. First, the good stuff.

As you can probably see this one has received a full wrap in Martini Racing livery. If you were to imagine what a 964 wearing such livery at the track would look like this is probably it. And it looks great! The Martini striping really works well over the curves of the rear quarters. I’d want to remove the stickers for the dealer, but otherwise I think this conveys its intent well. This RS America also is one of the low-option examples. There were only four options available (A/C, sunroof, radio, and limited-slip differential) so none of them have lots of options, but still for a car that’s supposed to be stripped down a lot of them seem to have those things added back. This one clearly does not have the radio or sunroof. We don’t get a clear look at the option sticker and the ad leaves us blind, but I think the only option chosen was the LSD. For those in search of the sportiest RSA out there this one checks those boxes.

1993 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe

I can never really begrudge sellers who are overly effusive about the cars they are selling, but sometimes it does frustrate me. In most cases, this applies to cars I really like, but which I feel are being presented in the wrong way. (I have a similar frustration whenever I see an ad from Toyota talking about how sporty the new Camry feels.) But I do get it, they’re trying to sell something and appeal to certain emotions.

This 964, a Midnight Blue 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe, falls into this category. I really like this 911; it looks great, the color combination is one that I really enjoy, and with a fairly recent engine rebuild we would hope it’s ready to roll and provide many more miles of excellent motoring. But it also has almost 150K miles on it so why should I care about collector appeal?

Tahoe Blue Metallic 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo

Update 12/31/2017 – the asking price on this 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo has dropped $20,000 to $109,995.

I always find it difficult to find 964 Turbos in interesting colors. Which is weird because of all the 911 models I feel like the 964 is the range I think had the largest number of unusual colors available. Porsche always has offered quite a variety, but it seemed with the 964 they let themselves go even further. But it seems buyers stuck with the more traditional options.

Here we have an obvious exception: a Tahoe Blue Metallic 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Brooklyn, with a color-to-sample Linen leather interior offset by a healthy dose of rootwood accents and 78,952 miles on it. I’m not very familiar with Tahoe Blue Metallic and this one is said to be 1 of only 3 Turbos equipped in this color combination. The extensive options list likely takes it to the top of that already exclusive company.

Let’s stick with yesterday’s blue theme and take a look at another of Porsche’s really nice blues. Here we have a Cobalt Blue Metallic 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe, located in Houston, with a light grey and blue interior and 74,452 miles on it. As should be immediately apparent, Cobalt Blue is a very pretty and striking shade of color. It doesn’t jump out at you as much as Minerva Blue does since it’s a darker shade, but though it may be more reserved it none the less shines brightly and exudes plenty of character. On the much more modern lines of the 964 – modern relative to an early 930 – it looks great bringing both elegance and excitement to this 911’s curves. It helps that this one looks in very nice shape!
