1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

Here is something we definitely don’t see everyday. From the outset I’ll say that there are a lot of questions to be asked about this 911, but once those questions are answered then this one probably won’t be around long. Here we have a 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, located in Texas, with 17,893 miles on it. Since the 993 Carrera RS was never imported into the United States and because we have not yet reached the 25 year window in which such a car can more easily be imported, I’m always curious how the rare few of these that do exist here manage to find their way to our shores. There are always ways to get around such obstacles and this isn’t the first one I’ve come across, but in each case there lingers that same aura of mystery. Those concerns cover our first set of questions, and frankly those are probably the most important as they help establish the authenticity of this 911 and its road legality. I should state, this does appear to be a genuine RS so I don’t want to heap doubt upon it in that regard, but at this sort of price caution is always warranted.

Amaranth Violet 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S – REVISIT

The striking Amaranth Violet 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, which we featured almost exactly one year ago, has come back up for sale from a new seller. As one of the much more rare shades we ever see there is sure to be a good deal of interest here, but whether it can find a new buyer we shall have to wait and see. It’s wearing different wheels now than in its previous auction and still sports a few modifications so it isn’t as original as some collectors might hope, but the color is one you’ll almost never come across. Purple isn’t the most popular color on a car, but it really does look mighty good here.

1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S

For pure beauty of design it is very tough to find a better example of Porsche’s 911 than the 993 Carrera S. There is a way in which the design takes us back to the 911’s predecessor itself, the 356 Coupe, through its curvier nature. The lines are significantly more taut and of course the entire package is more refined, but the hereditary lines are clear. The C2S enhances the entire aesthetic package of the 993 by utilizing the wider rear of the Turbo, but unlike its sibling the C4S and the Turbo itself the rear-drive layout has been retained. It’s a best of both worlds design: the fullness of the rear silhouette packaged with the simplicity and the, preferred by many, dynamics of rear-wheel drive. It is no wonder then that these models have been so highly prized by collectors and 911 aficionados alike. They were the last of the air-cooled 911s and the last of the more upright greenhouse that has gradually diminished beginning with the 996. The example we see here appears in impeccable condition: an Arctic Silver Metallic 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S, located in New York, with just 21,064 miles on it.

1997 Porsche 911 Targa

1997 Porsche 911 Targa

I don’t feature Porsche’s 993 Targa all that frequently. In part, there simply aren’t a lot of them in total given that we are talking about a single model. But it’s more than that. I’ve always enjoyed the original Targa design and while there are merits to the redesign we saw on the 993 overall I’m less of a fan of them. The most obvious point in the 993 Targa’s favor is that the basic profile of the 911 is less altered relative to what we find with earlier Targas. Viewed from the side, many may not even realize there is any distinguishing characteristic. For some, that point alone is enough to bring them into the 993’s camp. For me, there was always an allure to that brushed roll-hoop and the contrast it created with the rest of the car. Let’s not let these things detract from this particular 911 though because it looks to be an exceptional example in a pretty and rare color. Here we have a Pastel Yellow 1997 Porsche 911 Targa with Black interior and around 33,000 miles on it.

The Seinfeld Collection – Amelia Island 2016

As the final of my dream car posts we’ll settle in to the Amelia Island auctions for a group of exquisite Porsches and some of the most expensive available. Rather than stunning and rare color combinations these Porsches attract our notice through their historical relevance and, for many of them, their longevity. By now most are aware of Jerry Seinfeld’s love of Porsches; it’s been a long documented affair ever since the comedian became known across the world. He has decided to sell quite a few of them – 18 cars in all, 16 of those being Porsches – at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island Auctions on March 11. None of the cars are inexpensive – the lowest priced likely being his 1960 Volkswagen Beetle – and many of them will stretch well into seven figures. For fans of Porsches it’s a very interesting time as many of Seinfeld’s cars are near impossible to find in this condition, with some of them near impossible to find at all. I have chosen a few examples to show here that particularly caught my eye. I won’t go through the details of each car since those details are extensive and well chronicled on the auction listing for each.
