Coupe Week: 1989 BMW 635CSi

There are few cars that stir my emotions the way the E24 does. It is far and away my favorite BMW coupe and arguably one of the greatest automotive designs of all time. Few vehicles capture the essence of the 80s the way this car does and I think it is for that reason that I am fascinated with it. One of my long time goals has been to buy a car from the year I was born, but in the instance of the 635CSi I’d be better off adjusting that two years forward in order to get the updated version of the “Senior Six” M30 engine, which sported an increased compression ratio and updated Bosch Motronic DME.

This particular CSi has a laundry list of attractive qualities that lead me to believe it’ll sell for it’s Buy It Now price of $15,900. Though the lister has done an exceptional job of photographing the car he’s left out a number of details I’d be sure to include were I the one with the car up for sale. The seller notes that the vehicle is a one owner example but fails to mention that this is a final year vehicle, a year that only 61 manual 635s made it to our fair shores. Adding to the rarity is the all leather interior on this particular vehicle though the story of how the original owner took delivery in Germany leads me to believe that its not one of the ultra rare “L6” or “Luxury 6” 635s. Those cars were outfitted with all available options, a full leather interior and then shipped from the factory as a 635 CSi to the US where they were rebuilt by BMW of North America. The full leather interior would be an absolute must have were I to get one of these cars as it maximizes the vibe of glorious excess, which is what this car is all about.

For sale and offered for the 1st time since new is a true and documented one owner 1989 BMW 635CSi, Black on Black, 5 Speed.

The owner ordered his BMW at the local dealer here in Miami and took delivery of the car in Germany (US version) on July 4th 1989, drove it around for a week and brought it back to to the US were it has spent the rest of its life. Since then it’s been garaged kept and serviced as per the schedule. However, in 2003 the owner put the car up on jacks and stored it, and has remained there until recently. It’s undergone a fluid change, battery replacement and new brake pump.

In our opinion this 635CSi has to be one of the nicest examples available today. The car is 100% original. It has never seen a collision and the Carfax report will reflect the same. The paint is original! The exterior has no major dents, dings or scratches. Very minor wear and tear may be visible under close inspection, but it is truly remarkable to see an original black 1989 car show the way this one does. Zero rust, not even around the moonroof.

Same is to be said for the black leather interior. No major scratches, rips or stains only less than average wear and tear for a 1989. Unfortunately the dash does have cracks (see photos).

Absolutely everything on this car works, including: interior and exterior lights, wipers, radio, power seats, all four power windows, mirrors, a/c, horn, moonroof, etc.. The rear shade is manual, but won’t retract, must be due to the fact it’s been extended for so long. It is however in excellent condition.

Mechanically the car is sound. Both engine and transmission both sound and feel incredibly smooth. Clutch feels great and no grinding in the gearbox. The front shocks are original and would need to be replaced as they have little pressure and give the car a “floating” sensation when driving. Current milage is 73,184.

Included in the sale are the original factory tools, books, spare, warning triangle road hazard reflector, and mats. Service manual does reflect a lot of the services.

This is actually one of those rare cases where the car a looks better in person than it does in the photos. Locals are welcome to see in person! Don’t miss the opportunity to be the 2nd owner on this incredible machine.

I have included as many photos possible to assist in my description. However, if you require additional photos and/or have any questions please feel free to contact me, Gaston via message or call/text (786) 486-7746. International bidders welcome!

If the car needs to be shipped, I’ll are more than happy assist in the logistics for pick up and drop off. If you need a shipping quote please send zip code and I will have a price for you immediately. All shipping costs are at buyers expense.

This is a private sale and sold AS-IS. Please do not assume anything that may not be described. Ask all questions before committing to buy. No warranty or guarantee expressed, written or implied.

Please allow time for all 100+ HD photos to download below.

Thanks again and Happy Bidding!!

Of the many reasons why this car would be a smart buy, I think the strongest is the knowledge that you would be the second owner. It’s crazy that you’d be one of two people to have ever been the caretaker of such an impressive machine. Crazier still that the first owner only logged 73,184 miles on the damn thing in 26 years! I mean these vehicles were built to eat up long stretches of road for days on end and to do so in supreme style. Were I to get this thing I don’t think I could resist the urge to take it on road trips around the western US, it’s just such an inspiring vehicle.

Now as one would expect with a vehicle of its age, it does have a few minor issues. The dash is cracking though it appears to be minimal, the rear sunshade is stuck in its extended position and the front shocks need to be replaced as they are the originals. I’m pretty sure that the cost of addressing those issues would be well worth it and then some. I mean just look at those rear seats, what other coupe has rear seats that you just want to plop down in and go for a ride?! For me the E24 is an example of a car that nailed it both inside and out. The design is timeless, the performance is legendary and its impact on the industry is still felt today. The C126 Mercedes is great and all but it doesn’t even come close to reaching the swagger of the E24. Pretty soon I think we’re going to see prices begin to rise steadily on these vehicles so now is without a doubt the time to get one. If my S4 Avant sold tomorrow I think I’d be on a plane to Miami as soon as the check cleared. This is surely one of the best classic BMW deals I’ve seen going back to when I first started reading GCFSB and I am so pleased to have been able to write up such a fantastic vehicle.

Cheers,

-Andrew

28k Miles BMW e30 M3 For Sale in Alpine White

This has only been listed for a couple days and the bidding is already over $26,000 with 7 days remaining. Hold on, this one is reaching high!

1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale on eBay

quote from the seller’s listing:

Possibly the finest BMW E30 M3 Coupe in North America! One owner, 28,385 original miles, garaged, no winters, no rain. Completely stock, no modifications what so ever. The undercarriage is pristine. We are a 30 year BMW specialist representing the owner who is reluctantly selling this vehicle due to health issues.

The Alpine White on Tan leather looks very good and a nice break from the black or cardinal red interiors that white cars often came with. I’m a little surprised at how much this one is currently going for and will be eager to see where it finishes!

1983 Volkswagen Scirocco Wolfsburg GT With Only 4700 Miles!!

I am a long time Scirocco nut. I had a ratty 77 that I beat up thoroughly in high school (class of 92). It took tons of abuse, but the willing little 4 cylinder and light weigh was a lot of fun for a kid my age to be driving back then. But my car was a heap compared to the MKII a friend’s older brother owned. It was black with black striped interior. And it was lowered on Momo rims, low profile tires (when 50 series was considered low profile!), an Alpine CD player and huge subwoofer in the back. It was one of the nicest modified cars at our school without a doubt. I even remember my Dad, who frowned on modified cars typically, remark, “That is a beautiful car. A high school kid owns it?!”

Seeing how nicely preserved this car is reminds me of that MKII from high school. The black on black is of course very familiar (though his seats were no where near as awesome as these leather ones!), but also because you just don’t see well preserved Scirocco’s anymore. Anywhere! And with only 4700 miles, this one takes the term survivor to extremes under the circumstances. These were all passed through the hands of high school kids, several times over, and each one wanted to modify it — ultimately killing most of them.

Check out this

quote from the eBay listing:

INCREDIBLE survivor – totally original and un-molested with only 4700 miles – absolute time warp car!!!

Original 1983 1/2 Wolfsburg Edition Scirocco with 4700 original miles. Quite possibly the finest example anywhere!

The car was purchased new in July of 1983, driven very little, and then stored for the majority of the past 26 1/2 years. The mechanic for the owner took care of and stored the car for the majority of this time up until about one year ago. The first owner had the euro headlights installed at the dealer. At some point in 1985 the GTI snowflake rims with their original set of Pirelli P6’s were put on. It also appears as if the original factory OE radio was replaced with an OE BMW factory radio out of an 83 320i. I am including an original used Heidelburg radio with the car. The orig factory 13″ rims are available with the car along with the original window sticker, factory manuals and all the OE literature on the BMW radio along with its security code & the factory OE headlights.

[…]

The car is a literal “all” orig in every way, time warp. Never hit or damaged, never repainted anywhere. The only flaw is on the right side of the hood near the windshield where something hit it and left about a one inch crack in the paint. The leather interior, headliner, and carpet are in incredible condition and still smell like a new car. No cracks or fading whatsover. The dash, door panels, headliner, every inch of rubber on the door seals are impeccable in every way.

The last Scirocco I saw in person that was this nice was Josh’s 84 that we posted here last year. That was a really fine example. This is ridiculous. And I know not everyone reading this is going to believe it, but there are 19 bids on this car totaling $8600 — and the reserve isn’t met with 2 days remaining! Clearly there are some collectors out there who remember the car as fondly as I do; not to mention an owner who isn’t letting this one go easy!

Here is one of the rarest and most precious finds in the vintage BMW marketplace. A 1988 M5 with just 12,595 original miles. This is one of the finest and lowest mileage original M5’s in existence today. A true time capsule which looks, drives, and even smells like a new one. The pictures barely do it justice.

With a top speed of 150mph, this historically significant Motorsport model was considered the fastest production sedan in the world when it was introduced in the U.S. in 1988 and here it is in virtually the same condition it came out of the showroom in. Includes all original books, tools, keys, and even the original BMW cassette cleaner. This car is concourse show-ready and an absolute joy to drive.

Jim, I know you were looking for a good clean example. Is this the one?

Thanks for the heads up Geoff!

1984 Rabbit GTi with only 517 Miles For Sale

1984 Volkswagen GTi with 517 Miles For Sale

Saw this on the Autoblog feed this morning and my jaw dropped. That’s no typo, this car only has 517 miles on it!

:

quote from seller’s listing:

This 1984 GTI Rabbit is my father’s car. He is the one and only orignal owner. He bought this little slot car in Jan 1985 brand new from the dealer. It was driven home and later driven to CMC Stereo Center to upgrade the stereo to a Blaupunkt stereo and four Alpine speakers, this was top of the line back then. The car was later rustproofed with the LATEST WAX treatment in his garage by a persponal friend. We have ALL documentation. Within two weeks my dad had back surgery. The car sat in his garage for months hoping to fully recover from surgery.Years went by….two more surgeries, 25 years later it is time to sell. He simply can’t drive a stick shift anymore. My father had owned a Shell Service station for 50 years, he knows how to maintain a vehicle LOL and is quite the perfectionist.

You won’t find a newer GTI like this anywhere. It still smells new inside. It should be in a VW museum somewhere. This car is truly a “TIME CAPSULE”. All original, original owner, all original documents, blue car cover in trunk, 515 original miles, nothing needed but a set of license plates. We have put three new batteries in the car over 25 years , second set of tires . We have started this car monthly . All rubber is like new! Everthing is like new. Never driven in the rain snow or anywhere as a matter of fact. We garantee you will not find a newer one than this. the only flaws are a couple of bicycle handle bar nicks ( two small dings , one on front fender and the other on the rear). Nothing difficult to repair. This car starts perfect…….runs perfect ……….looks perfect…..It never sat out in the sun for any ammount of time. New, it sold for $8799.00 it should have held it’s retail price. .LOL IT NEEDS NOTHING!!!! But someone to drive it, it handles like a slot car. I owned a similair one 18 years ago, they are a blast to drive and carve the curves like a true sports car.

There is quite a spirited discussion in the Autoblog comments and also a 4+ page thread on VWVortex about this car and what it’s worth. I can see both side of the argument. Where do you think it will end up?

Low Miles W124 Merc E500 For Sale in Washington

Here’s a gorgeous , with only 8800 miles and a $43k buy-it-now:

1994 Mercedes E500 For Sale Low Miles

1994 Mercedes E500 For Sale Low Miles

quote from seller’s eBay listing:

1994 Mercedes E500 finished in Pearl Black over Parchment Leather interior. This ONE OWNER example is being presented in excellent, garage kept condition. Fully loaded with all options from the factory, this E500 is considered the original AMG Mercedes as it was a joint collaboration between Mercedes and Porsche, it carries with it very subtle OEM body treatments such as front and rear fender flares and enhanced grill. Purchased new in 12/94 from California dealer, this car has only seen 8800 miles and always stored in a climate controlled garage. All service documents from factory Authorized Mercedes dealer, all books, tools, and keys! No accidents or paintwork and is 100% all original as it came from the factory. Considered the lowest mileage E500 in the country known to exist. A collectible car with the comfort and ease of a daily driver!

While there aren’t many E500’s with this kind of mileage — after all, most were driven by wealthy executives who didn’t care about miles — $43k sounds very optimistic. Maybe there are gold bars in the glove box, but I think in this economy, the seller is really holding out for the one in a million (or billion?) that might justify the price for the miles.

Low Miles 1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale

I spotted this one yesterday on eBay. It’s an 88 with ~70k miles and it looks very clean and original. When I first saw it, the current bid was 11k reserve not met. Today it’s over $22k with 4 days remaining!

1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale S14 Shot1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale Leather Seats1988 BMW e30 M3 For Sale

quote from seller’s listing:

I recently purchased the car locally and have decided to go a different direction with my car collection. This car was always on my “list” of must haves. It is a wonderful, very low mile, original car. Paint is excellent, interior is excellent. All service records since new. I am technically the third owner but the 2nd owner only had it a couple of months. The car didn’t suit his daily driver needs. This car starts and runs perfectly.

Exterior: Lachssilber metallic
All panels OEM with tags except front bumper. Hood and front fenders have been painted, very well. As I was told, the car rolled into a fence from a parking lot, punctured the bumper and scratching the hood and fender. Upon inspection, there is no evidence of structural damage, only a cosmetic repair. Which was done extremely well. All sheet metal is original with v.i.n. tags intact. NO RUST on the car what so ever! Car has one very small crease just at the corner below the right rear tail light. I am including a picture but you really have to look for it. It measures about 1.5 inches in length.

Interior: Gray leather that is in great original condition. Recent Leatherique treatment and minor bolster wear, perfect carpets throughout with recently added new OEM mats. Perfect headliner.
Perfect glass and trim
All electrical systems work as they should.
Car is completely stock (except Pioneer radio/CD). Working OEM radio with code cards included.
Relatively new Yokohama Avid V4 tires on wheels. (2) with minor rash.
Clear CA title with ’88 plates, Complete service history from new and clean Carfax
70,020 California miles
No leaks or smoke, runs perfectly. New A/C compressor and charged. Works perfectly and blows very cold.
All manuals and tools included along with original keys.

It looks like e30 M3 fanatics are alive and well with the bidding getting this high so quickly. The only bargains left have to be the ones that are traded privately because the it seems like good, solid cars like this are always (in my opinion) absurdly priced publicly.

1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale1985 Mercedes 190 2.3-16 For Sale

quote from eBay listing:

This is the one! Anthracite gray with black leather interior, 5-speed manual with the higher horsepower, higher compression european spec engine. 75k miles and very tight. Very good to excellent condition throughout.

Yes, this is a 1985 model and that means it was produced for the European market and imported here. In the case of the Cosworth 190E, this means that this car has higher horsepower (185hp vs 167hp), torque and compression ratio.

This is a really nice example of a very desirable and collectible car. This is not a show car, but it certainly is in much better than average condition and has a relatively low 75,000 miles on it. It is probably too nice to take racing — even though it is a race car — but could make a great base for a project street car. Or do like me and just drive it! I have driven a lot of Mercedes in my life and this is the only one that really feels like a sports car. It’s nimble handling, high revving Cosworth engine and great exhaust note make this car a blast to drive. Please come buy it before I get into trouble!

• 75,000 Miles
• Five-speed transmission
• 4-cylinder 2.3 liter engine

I like the opening bid of $8000 and the honesty of this listing. While not quite as nice as this example posted a while back, the combination of European specification, recent respray, and very good miles, make me think this is a great example for an enthusiast. I wish I was in the market right now, I’d bid!

quote from their website:

We have an exceptional Yellowbird Yellow 1997 Porsche Ruf CTR-2 Sport for sale. This RUF was the fastest production car in the world in 1997. This ultra rare Porsche Ruf CTR2 Sport ranks right up there with Ferrari’s F50 and Jaguar’s XJ220. The CTR2’s air-cooled engine whips out an impressive 580HP with 0-60 times under 4 seconds, and a blistering top speed of 217mph! There were only 16 of these street legal super cars made from 1995-1997 so this is obviously a really rare chance at owning a piece of automotive history. Not to mention it is one wicked car to drive.

This is the fastest car I’ve ever ridden in, and we didn’t even juice it anywhere near its full potential. This particular car was featured in the February 1998 issue of European Car magazine when it was owned by the previous owner Steve Beddor. This car has only 8k original miles since new, a beautiful sounding Blaupunkt stereo system and looks to kill. You are looking at a very fine investment opportunity for any Porsche enthusiast – and one fun sports car that craves some hard driving.

Not much needs to be said here. An opportunity like this doesn’t come along very often, and it’s appears to be titled! The real deal, not a conversion, and has only 8k miles. I’ve always said that I think the 993 series was the last of the real Porsche 911’s and this one is the ultimate tuner car of it’s generation. Sure it’s a Powerball fantasy for most of us, but if my ticket hits, this guy’s phone is going to blow up the next day! Make sure to click through and check out all the images they have and bunch of videos too.

2 Unique Mercedes 77 450SEL Estate, 91 Koenig 300CE

With a clientele that included Sophia Loren, Crayford conversions on 1970s Mercedes are an exclusive beast. These costly vehicles came warrantied by Mercedes and were the way customers who wanted an estate wagon for their fancy sedan could have the best of both worlds. This particular car interestingly shows the ugly U.S. market safety bumpers, but has avoided the recognizable, though inferior U.S. market quad circle sealed beam headlights in favor of Euro spec H4 beams. The seller, presumably using the register of Crayford Mercedes found here: http://www.crayford-benz.org, claims this to be one of only two or three in existence.

91 Mercedes 300CE Koenig Special on eBay.

300CE Koenig1300CE Koenig2300CE Koenig3300CE Koenig4300CE Koenig5300CE Koenig6

I may be mistaken, but I believe that this is not the only Koenig Special Benz once owned by baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr. in existence. Koenig epitomized the Miami Vice over the top bad ass look when it came to mid 80s Mercedes. This later 1991, has the same flavor with the in your face widebody kit, but I think the look is actually better pulled off by slightly larger W126 bodied Benz coupes like the 560SEC. Occasionally you will see the widebody kits in metal, but more often they are fiberglass and after nearly 20 years it may show some spiderweb cracking up close. It is hard to say what the premium here is for the owner provenance, but it safe to say this asking price is a significant discount from new. A new owner of this Koenig Special vehicle will need to remember that, though most mechanical parts won’t be any harder to find than standard 3 liter Mercedes fare, replacing the massive 315 size tires on the rears will be a cost. Fortunately with a 6 cylinder engine, instead of the torque of a 5 or 5.6 liter from a 126 bodied car, burnouts should be easier to avoid. The big V8 Koenig Specials sometimes came with even more outrageous 345 meats on the rear.
