1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16

The 1980s were quite a decade. Maybe I’m nostalgic because my formative years span that decade, but this was a golden era for motor racing, with Group B rallying and the series this Mercedes-Benz was devised for, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, or DTM. A number of great cars have appeared in this series, but none so legendary as the matchup between the BMW E30 and the Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth. While it’s generally agreed the BMW had a bit of the edge on the Mercedes, the Benz had plenty to offer in its own right. It wasn’t outright fast in street form, it had an increase in power over the stock models, a dogleg manual gearbox and tuned suspension that was uncommon for Mercedes at the time. This 190E 2.3-16 for sale in Austin, Texas Miami is a sympathetically cared for example with a just a few issues that need sorting.

1985 Mercedes-Benz 300TD

The E63 AMG Estate we featured earlier isn’t an impractical car, but it’s hard to deny that it’s a bit over the top for most people. If speed isn’t your thing, you could always go the other direction and pick up a W123 diesel estate, such as this 1985 300TD for sale in Michigan from the same seller as the 300TE 4Matic we featured last week. With only 37,000 miles, this beauty is nowhere close to being broken in and is in like new condition, a superlative that is thrown about liberally but certainly applies in this case.

2013 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate

The Wall Street Journal ran a piece last Friday covering the new E63 AMG S Series Estate. More than one friend messaged me over the weekend asking if I read about this new fast five-door. I informed them, however, that a fast estate car is nothing new for Mercedes-Benz. This just happens to be the first one to employ an all-wheel drive system. Still, my remarks were met with confusion, as those who read the article viewed such an estate vehicle as impractical or unattractive. To each their own, but for those jaded by the glut of SUVs on US roads, a V8 monster like this 2013 E63 AMG Estate is just what the doctor ordered.

1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Estate

If the 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300TE 4Matic we featured this week seemed a bit too lairy in terms of upkeep, how about this rear-drive 1995 E320 Estate for sale in Nebraska with similar mileage? These E class wagons have an uncanny way of blending class with durability at the same time and have an endearing aura about them. Every time I come across one on the street it’s like meeting up with an old friend.

Joe DiMaggio’s 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL

$_57

Baseball season is fast approaching, with Spring Training just a few weeks away. For fans of America’s pastime, this particular 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is tied to a significant piece of the sport’s history. It was Old Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium in the summer of 1991, and one of the team’s greatest players, Joe DiMaggio, was on hand as it was the 50th anniversary of his 56 game hitting streak. That day, he did something rather out of character and treated the crowd to a speech. Afterwards, DiMaggio was presented this S class as a token of appreciation by the team. Now, almost 15 years after his death, this very car is up for sale in Arizona.
