1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

Since it’s Christmas Day, let’s pose the obvious question: what would Santa Claus drive? I tend to think he would be someone that enjoys a more relaxed cruising style but still appreciates good craftsmanship. Given that, what could be more appropriate than a Signal Red Mercedes-Benz 560SL? This particular R107 for sale in Texas has covered 60k miles, which splits the difference nicely between low mileage museum queen and high mileage basket case.

1979 Mercedes-Benz 280E

The diesel-powered W123 Mercedes-Benz is a favorite of ours here at GCFSB. Their iconic style and durability has won motorists the world over, including us. However, this 1979 280E is one rarely seen stateside, packing the M110 2.8 liter gasoline inline-6 engine under the hood. Does the petrol engine take away the mystique of the durable diesel or is it more attractive given the added power? Whatever your opinion, this is a downright clean California car in need of a good home this holiday season.

1988 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL with 14k miles

Perhaps its nostalgia or living out a dream never fulfilled, but as time marches on, I want to find a way to get into a mint condition W126 S class. An icon of the 1980s, this is a car that is still revered for its balance of classic and modern styling with durability and luxury buyers had come to expect from Mercedes-Benz up to that point. This Midnight Blue 300SEL for sale in New Jersey has to be one of the lowest mileage examples of any W126 I’ve seen in the past few years of writing for GCFSB.

1986 Mercedes 500SEC Biodiesel Conversion – REVISIT

Mercedes 500SEC biodiesel2

The Mercedes-Benz 500SEC diesel conversion we featured back in June is still on offer in the Netherlands. The seller, Jens, contacted us with the following information:

The Mercedes SEC diesel is stil for sale, runs fine on vegetable oil and also on diesel or a mix for more than 403,100km without any technical problems. It starts even at minus 10 degrees celsius thanks to the fuel heating filter system which first runs on battery power and later swiches to motor heat convection. I dropped the price to €6,000, because The Netherlands raised taxes to a level that is no longer interesting for me to keep this dream machine on the road. It will stay in my barn until sombody is interested. Even in ten or twenty years it will be a great car! You can contact me at jensliman65@gmail.com

1994 Mercedes-Benz S280 5-speed manual

$_57 (1)

I’m a sucker for oddball cars. Be it a rare color, prototype or oddity that might have not lit up the sales charts, you’ve got me hooked. Today, we’ll take a look at something that few in the US knew was an option for 1994 over at Mercedes-Benz: a manual transmission W140 S class. Yes, a few of these exist out there, but not many. The 5-speed manual was relegated to the entry level six-cylinder models in the range, such as this S280. It’s fairly common knowledge that the entry level S class in the US, the S320, with its slightly larger six cylinder engine wasn’t one to light up the quarter mile. But with the row-your-own option in this S280 for sale in Italy, at least it allows you to make the most of what you’ve got.
