1986 Volkswagen Transporter DoKa Syncro

$_57

I wrote up a cool-but-quaint light blue Syncro Doka last week, and while they are very cool and unique cars, it wasn’t quite the look I’d go for in a Vanagon Truck. Today’s Doka wears the same Vanagon Carat Cafe wheels that I took issue with on the Baby Blue, but brings a badass orange-and-black paint scheme to liven things up. It also has the Bostig Ford Zetec shared with another Vanagon I wrote up recently, making it a tasty proposition indeed. The reserve is probably considerable, but bidding started pretty low, giving hope that this could be a great chance at a rare and awesome truck.

1986 Volkswagen Transporter Syncro Doka

Here’s a lovely little Doka (double-cab) Transporter to throw a curveball at my usual Westfalia love. I’ve always loved Transporters for their rarity, funny proportions, and eminent usability – exaggerated when they come with Syncro. That bed is pretty tiny, but I’m already thinking of ways to extend a small platform and sleep in the back… maybe not quite the RV-status of a Westy, but it could certainly take you anywhere with aplomb and be a great continental adventure vehicle. This example comes with a baby-fresh 56k miles and a decade-old Baby Blue repaint. Asking price is hair under $30k, which is a lot, but it’s a lot of Volkswagen and if it had a pop-top they’d be asking twice that amount.

1989 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Syncro Westfalia

If you want to go camping in your vehicle these days, there’s not a lot of ready made options out there on the market short of specialty RVs these days. But years ago, Volkswagen was more than happy to meet the need to take your home out on the highway with the Vanagon. The Westfalia Camper was offered through most of the Vanagon’s life, offering a pop-up camper top and miniature kitchen. To this day, few have matched this van’s utility, especially when coupled with Syncro four-wheel drive. This Vanagon GL Syncro Westfalia for sale in Oregon is ready to tackle the scenery of the Pacific Northwest with aplomb.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan Westfalia Weekender

My proclivities lie in the 80s, especially when it comes to VW Vans. The old buses are cool, but after riding in my brother’s college-edition enough, it’s a little post-war for me. The Eurovan has always seemed like a capable fellow, but I was initially turned off by front wheel drive and less distinctive styling than the Vanagon. A friend is in search of one to someday be the ultimate family vacation vehicle, and despite being the more modern Van, they can be had more affordably than Vanagons. Today’s eschews the bland looks with an amazing original teal paint job. It’s put on some miles, but that’s what adventure vans are for!

1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL

If you missed last week’s awesome Westfalia that Nate wrote up, you missed a great example of the breed – as Nate put it, all you could ask for in a Vanagon. But if you don’t need the kitchen and awesomely cool pop-top, you can save a bunch of money and still have the Vanagon experience. Granted, you could argue that a large part of the appeal of the Vanagon is those camper Westfalias, but there’s a neat simplicity about the non-camper version. Today there is a stunningly clean version of the regular Vanagon GL on Ebay:
