1970 BMW 2800CS Euro

Okay, I’m a little early. I wanted to celebrate hitting 2,800 “Likes” on our Facebook Fanpage with a BMW 2800CS, one of the prettiest cars BMW made. While we’re close, we’re not quite there – but hopefully this post and others help inspire people to read our page. In any event, the car. The 2800 took the basic formula of the New Class 2000CS and added slightly different styling touches and a larger motor. With around 170hp on tap, it was pretty powerful in its day and unlike many of the more recent coupes, was a relative lightweight. It was also quite pretty, one of the more timeless designs BMW produced. It managed to both be futuristic and classically proportioned, and really the 2000 and 2800 set the tone for BMW coupes for the next 20 plus years through the end of the E24 6-series production. This particular example presents well in classic light metallic blue, though it’s not its original color:

We are please to offer this very clean and well maintained 1970 BMW 2800CS with 4-speed manual transmission. This BMW was delivered new in Italy and made its way to the US in the 70’s. The original color was Tundra. It has been repaint metallic blue and looks good. This BMW is accident free, and no visable rust. It is an original car that shows really well. It drives great, and could be used as a daily driver. The engine is strong and clean, no smoke on start up, the transmission is smooth with good syncros thru all 4 gears, as well as reverse. Here is some of the mechanical work that has recently been performed,

Rear brakes and cylinders, replaced radiator and cooling fan for better cooling, european headlights, upper strut mounts, front and rear strut shocks, drive shaft coupler center bearing, motor mounts, transmission mounts, differential mounts, gas peddle bushings, oil service, trans service, differential service, all new filters, also radio upgrade, and all new tires.

This BMW does everything the right way, the way a well maintained BMW should. We have more pictures at www.pristineautosusa.com. To view or test drive this BMW or ask questions, please call 805-929-4444. We are located in sunny Nipomo on the Central Coast of California. We also assist with shipping. Inspections welcome. Thank you.

There’s a fair amount of mechanical work shown and plenty of pictures that detail the car, which overall presents well. The interior color combination makes much more sense when you consider the original green Tundra shade, but it still works okay here in the light metallic blue. The car isn’t perfect and should probably be considered a very good driver and light show car. As with all early BMWs, the claim of “no visible rust” needs to be more thoroughly examined; these cars are infamous for the tin worm, and depending on how the car was kept over the past 40 years it’s had many chances to get wet – especially when one considers the repaint. Still, it’s very nice to look at and if the price remains lower it could be a great buy for a classic BMW enthusiast who doesn’t mind their car getting called a “3.0” all the time.

Glad to see they ruined a perfectly good car with some new, cheap, tacky aftermarket radio. UGH.
