1976 Porsche 912E

From 1965-1969 the 912 served as Porsche’s entry-level model. It essentially was the little brother to the 911 and sold well up until Porsche chose to discontinue its production ahead of the release of the 914. But in 1976 the 912 returned for a one year run, filling in for the discontinued 914 before the debut of the 924. Released as the 912E, the little brother was back: buyers could now get classic 911 styling, but with a 2.0 liter flat-4 and a lower price. The car featured here is a very pretty Desert Beige (more on the color below) 1976 912E located in California.

Chequered Flag International is pleased to offer this 1976 Porsche 912E in Desert Biege (code 516) with Tan interior. 103,735 miles. Sold new by Mesa Porsche in California on 6/29/76. Superb rust free body with excellent paint (which is correct but looks more like a pale yellow than beige). Very nice interior – front seats redone but the rest is original and incredible – uncracked dash, great door panels, roof liner & carpets. Steering wheel has just been professionally covered in leather. Fantastic mechanically and totally stock – smog equipment was removed and saved in a box (goes with the car). No A/C to clutter things up. Very strong engine – great gearbox & syncros. Nice clutch, steering & brakes. Drives like one with 30/40k – really. Comes with its original handbook / warranty book & a smattering of records. This is a very good 912E – rare enough in any condition but hardly ever seen in this incredibly well preserved state. Drive it or collect it – you can’t go wrong! Inspections encouraged. All sales AS-IS. Sales tax & license fees due if delivered in California.

The color: Desert Beige always leaned more towards the yellow end of the scale than the brown, but this car almost looks too yellow and reminds me more of the Talbot Yellow offered on these cars. Pictures can always be deceiving, but that’s something I’d want to have checked out. Otherwise, it was the color combination that immediately drew me to this car. I love the contrasting yellow exterior with tan interior and the interior itself looks almost flawless. Low- to mid-$20,000 is reasonable for a 912 in very good condition, but this car’s higher mileage may detract from that slightly. But to be honest, I chose this car to feature in part because of the mileage. At 100K miles, this car should still have plenty of life, but a potential buyer can drive it without concern over hurting the car’s value through added mileage. This could be a good chance at purchasing a classic Porsche for a reasonable price that will provide a few years of motoring enjoyment without any feelings of guilt every time the car comes out of the garage.
