1978 Porsche 911SC

As we’ve touched on in the past here at GCFSB, the SC, or Super Carrera, is an excellent choice for those first time Porsche owners looking to be a part of the club. The 911 went through a somewhat forgettable phase in the mid 1970s, but that all changed in 1978 when the SC was introduced. This was meant to be the ultimate interpretation of the 911, as Porsche had intended the 924 and 928 to take over the reins and lead Porsche into the future. We all know how that story ended, but now, over 30 years on, the SC remains a very desirable and practical classic sports car that, with modern upgrades and proper maintenance, can live a long, hearty life. This SC for sale in Los Angeles has been in the Southwest and California all its life, having covered just under 50,000 miles.

This 911 ticks all of the boxes for me. The red with black Fuchs alloys is one of my favorite combinations, and the whale tail gives it those Turbo looks without the Turbo cost or complexity. I would scan the records closely, as it doesn’t appear to have the upgraded SSI heat exchangers installed. Also, the pop off valve to prevent backfires is another modern upgrade that would lend to more trouble free ownership. SC prices, like many 911 generations, are on the rise. A good SC can run you anywhere from $17,000 to $25,000 these days, with the best examples commanding $30,000 or more. I’d say this one is priced well given the condition and mileage.
