Here’s a car that brings with it its own sort of rarity. It won’t necessarily pique the interest of the collectors, nor will it attract crazy values, but it is definitely the sort of car we’re interested in around here. This 1982 Porsche 911SC, located in Portland, Oregon, has traveled more than 256,000 miles. If there were doubts about the potential longevity of these cars – and generally those doubts are minimal – a 911 like this shows the possibilities available to owners who make a point of maintaining their car properly. It is either a one- or two-owner car, the ad is slightly unclear on this, and while it isn’t entirely original I’m not sure that’s really what this car is about. Here we have car that has been driven, enjoyed, and cared for throughout its life and which has a history.

I’m not sure the seller is correct that this is a collector’s piece. It is certainly great to see a 911SC with this sort of mileage, but I’d guess it would need to add many more miles again before it would become something that people desire simply for its history. And, frankly, my interest in this car doesn’t stem from its collectability, but rather from the value it should offer to buyers hoping to find some of the few classic 911s on the market that can be had for reasonable amounts of money. The seller’s job is to sell, so it isn’t a big deal, though it might suggest a reserve that is higher than I’d expect for such a car. Bidding currently sits at $18,000 and I wouldn’t typically expect it to rise too much further, but we’ll have to see if the longevity of the car garners it significant attention. At the very least, this shows that many of the 100K mile 911s we come across should have plenty of life left in them.

Looks like somebody attempted a do-it-yourself upholstery job on the front seat.
Emphasis on “attempted.”
WHY MUST I BE TORMENTED BY THE 89,000 MILE, 1983 SC I DIDN’T BUY TWO YEARS AGO FOR $19K???
