I remarked in an earlier post on the 993TT that the 930, especially the early 3.0 liter examples, remains my favorite of the 911 Turbos. As pretty as the 993 design might be, there is a way in which that beauty goes against the audacity of the 911 Turbo itself. It lacks some of the aggression of the original and for that the original will always remain my favorite. To be fair, there is likely a large degree of nostalgia at work here as the 930 was the Turbo of my childhood and as such will always have a stronger hold on my psyche than other models. So when I came across this one, a Meteor Metallic 1986 Porsche 930 Coupe, located in New Jersey, I figured I had to feature it. 1986 was the first year the 930 returned to the US market and for that we can all be thankful. This particular example shows very reasonable mileage at 50,489 and has a fantastic Burgundy leather interior.

The seller has provided us with a wealth of detail photos for the exterior and this appears to be a very clean, straight and well cared for 930. The Burgundy interior looks in great condition showing little wear. It also contrasts very nicely with the Meteor Metallic exterior. About that exterior color. Meteor Metallic was indeed an available color for the 911 in 1986, but the paint code shown is L999 and suggests this is a paint-to-sample car, which of course could be just about any color. There may be no actual discrepancy here as I’ve come across a 911 where the under-hood sticker showed L999 and an additional sticker showed the actual paint code, but it would be nice to have additional verification that this is the original color. Still, the car looks in great shape and with a Buy It Now price of $89,900 we could even say it’s reasonably priced. There may be some things to verify, but I would not be at all surprised if this one were snapped up rather quickly.

Very, very pretty 930. I’m sure I’ll catch some heat for saying it but I’d want to swap the steering wheel out for an aftermarket one, probably solid wood but other than that, it’s perfect in my eyes.
The steering wheel on the 911 from this era is probably the worst part of the entire car so I don’t think anyone would begrudge you exchanging it for an aftermarket one. Just make sure to keep the original for resale!
funny how the prices between this particular example (year/mileage) differ from the last year for the 930(89) w/a G50 5 speed…..I know of a GP White w/Burgundy interior for sale 47k on the odo and it is in the strong 6 figures..
