1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster – RHD

Even though there are always certain cars we feature frequently and always have an eye out for here at GCFSB, we still come across examples that can stun us for a variety of reasons. Such is the case here with a rarely seen Silver 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster with a fantastic Velvet Red interior and only 29,032 miles on it. This is a UK Speedster so it is one of only 139 right-hand drive 911 Speedsters produced, adding an extra touch of rarity to an already special car. The 911 Speedster, of course, was Porsche’s homage to the original 356 Speedster, a stripped-down, no frills, two-seater, intended for enthusiasts who desired a weekend racer, but without going to a full-on track car. The lower windscreen was removable and the folding top wasn’t really intended for use while driving. While those sporting intentions probably never manifested to a significant degree in Porsche’s remakes of the Speedster the basic design elements and stylistic cues were still present. Even today the Speedster remains a testament to Porsche’s history and one of the most loved designs the marque has produced.

The 911 Speedster (M503), is a low-roof version of the Cabriolet inspired by the iconic 1950’s Porsche 356A Speedster; this unique Porsche model was produced only in 1989, we understand from factory records that just 139 right hand drive models were ever made worldwide. Our car was commissioned to be built to the preferred turbo bodied specification with its sleek and distinctive low rake windscreen and speed humps behind both driver and passenger. Considered by most Porsche connoisseurs as the most attractive design of the 911 series ever built.

Supplied new in August 1989 by AFN Porsche (London) Ltd and finished in the best colour combination of Silver Metallic with Velvet Red Hide. It has the factory option of sports seats and is also fitted with a period immobiliser and Blaupunkt Toronto RDM128 CD audio system. Accompanying the 911 is a very comprehensive chassis file which includes:

• An original and complete Hand Book Pack

• An original service book complete with 19 OPC service stamps

• Mot’s dating back to 1995

• Road tax disc back to 2003

• The most comprehensive service records from new

• Last service completed by Porsche Service Centre, West London /09/12/13

The Porsche is presented in absolutely superb order throughout and has a total speedo reading of only 29,032 miles from new. Our Speedster represents a unique opportunity to acquire a rare and fast appreciating contemporary classic 911.

For someone in the UK, or perhaps even a US buyer who is seeking that extra touch of uniqueness, this Speedster certainly checks all the boxes. While I’m not sure on production numbers it is very rare that we come across a Speedster in a color other than Black, White, or Guards Red and this one is supplemented by a Velvet Red interior that provides a fantastic contrast and looks outstanding. This is sure to be an example that sets it apart from the crowd even more so than the typical Speedster already does. This certainly won’t come cheap as Speedster values continue to rocket upwards but it’s these little differences that turn prized collector cars into something truly special.
