A few weeks ago, Paul took a look at a beautiful 1991 M5, a car often lost in the shuffle. It’s not that it wasn’t an impressive car; it’s just that the cars that bookend it have been lumped into “Legendary” status and the E34 model has not. The E28, long also ignored, has finally gotten the recognition it deserves as a fantastic and great looking sports sedan; similarly, the 400 horsepower E39 – the car that redefined the market – is already being considered by most the car to have. That leaves the smart buyer to look at the quite stylish, silly fast E34 model, most notable for being the last of the “handbuilt” M cars. Today, there’s a nice example on Craigslist:

I’m a bit curious if the maintenance records are complete, or if – more likely – they have the original service book that was stamped by the dealer. Still, if they do have all the records for the past 23 years that would be impressive for a second hand dealer. Like Paul’s example, the color combination is classic and sinister; also like that other example, the wheels have been updated. 1991-spec models should carry the “Turbine” covers instead of the “Throwing Stars”, but I’m okay with that change and it’s still in character with the original M-System wheels. Pricing seems more realistic than the last example we looked at, and considering this car in comparison to the M-sports I’ve written up, here’s the car I’d rather have. Being a dealer, the price is slightly inflated; I’d walk in there with $14,000 cash and I bet you’d drive away in a stellar car.

Dream car for me . . .
if this car is as it is presented….the ask is not unreasonable at all…
the requisite PPI and service records are a must….
though not my choice for interior color, the contrast is sharp…
@Carter…Cash is KING!….14k would be well bought….even at 15k IF all is as represented.
my E34 has slightly higher miles wonder what it will finally trade for
