1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Flatnose

Upon initial release of the 964 Turbo, Porsche had yet to fully develop a turbocharged version of the 964’s standard 3.6 liter flat-six and thus chose to retain the 3.3 liter turbocharged flat-six from the 930. By 1993, however, a turbocharged 3.6 liter flat-six was ready. With 360 hp being delivered to the rear wheels, these cars provided effortless acceleration and spine-tingling excitement packaged in a neat and beautiful design. But what if some buyers might want a little bit more? Enter the 3.6 Turbo S: a 385 hp rear-wheel-drive monster and one of the most sought after 911s in Porsche’s storied history. Less than 100 examples of the 3.6 Turbo S were produced through the Porsche Exclusive program and buyers had the choice of the standard wide-body Turbo design or they could choose a 968-derived Flatnose. The Slantnose was a popular option on the 930 throughout much of the ’80s and we come across them fairly frequently. The 3.6 Turbo S is another beast entirely. Few exist and they rarely come up for sale, but here we have one. A stunning Guards Red 1994 Porsche 911 3.6 Turbo S Flatnose with Champagne leather interior, located in Cleveland, that has seen a very reasonable 36,300 miles.

From the Porsche website:
http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/philosophyandclassicworld/world/models/roadvehicles/1994-911tu/
Up to the end of 1993 and into model year 1994, the Turbo 3.6 continued to be built without any modification. Thereafter, production priority was assigned to the Carrera Type 993, first unveiled in autumn 1993 at the IAA in Frankfurt.

In 1993, it was also possible to order a particularly exclusive Turbo model from the Porsche Exclusive department. This was known as the ‘slant nose’ version, with lower front end and pop-up headlights in the style of the Porsche 928. Other visually distinguishing features included a special front spoiler, air intakes for oil cooling, cooling air openings in the rear side sections ahead of the wheel arches, and an exhaust system with quadruple tailpipes. That was by no means all: a glance below the engine lid sporting a body-coloured rear wing revealed a few more differences. Nestling in the bay was a 3.6 litre engine with an increased power rating of 385 bhp. 76 customers indulged themselves with this special version.

I’ve been asked by friends many times: which is my favorite 911? The answer has always been either the 1973 Carrera RS with regard to classic 911s and the 997 GT3 RS for the modern cars. But I’m not so sure anymore. Cars like this are called the “Holy Grail” for good reason and with the Flatnose this car has just about everything I could want. The price? I’m not sure, but given the current market for air-cooled 911s I would expect something north of $200K.

Whoa the headlights pop up just like the 928? slightly counter intuitive when the standard fixed upright lights were fine but I suppose it helps aerodynamics (during the day at least, although I suppose that will mostly be when this is driven – and at the track). Unusual specimen. Performance should be on part with some of today’s super cars, and collectibility is high as you guys said. Surprised so many 964 seem to have been made/ordered in guards red, it’s too loud for a German car.

wow how do cars like this end up in the hands of dealers that seem a bit clueless???
this is not a slant nose but a flat nose and yes there is a difference…don’t use Wiki as your source LOL
yes they are very rare…they got that right….
RPM happens to have 2 for sale right now (1) black (1) red and Sloan cars had one…not sure if it sold.
this car is more rare than the straight 3.6 S of the same year…
performance wise they are identical…so I guess the flachbau buyer want different styling…
this is a 250k car all day…nice find!

My boss had a new one when I was a rookie. Still remember that awesome first drive.
I stick to rare 964’s because of that day.
