When looking for a fun driver, where do you draw the spending line to get what you want? All of us want a one owner, perfectly maintained example that has been in a heated garage, fed only foie gras and caviar with zero miles. Ironically, though, when cars like that come up for sale the majority of people feel these perfect examples are well overpriced. As such, most of us look for the best example that we can afford. However, are there are times when you can back your expectation level down and accept a slightly more dubious car for a discount? Today’s M Coupe may be a good example of that. A S52 1999 model in Estoril Blue, this M is about to change hands for the fifth time and was in an accident early in its life. Consequently, the asking price is lower than most of the M Coupe market by a notable amount. Would you bite?

The car has a salvage title due to an accident in the early @2002 time frame.
The damage was limited to cosmetic damage including: front bumper cover, right front head light and right front fender and some light body damage on the right side of the car.
There is no visible frame damage from the accident, all panels line up as they should and the only non original panel without the original vin numbers is the right front fender.
The paint looks very good for its age and matches nice to the original paint.I’ve only put 2000 miles on it since June 2013.
We are moving in a few months, and need to sell.
Look at my other auction as I am selling my other M3 Turbo with 530 Rear wheel horsepower
I’ve replaced the lights in the dash and gauges that were burnt out. Changed plugs and oil.
The car has the typical flex issues and is need of reinforcement kit. My plan was to install the Randy Forbes kit to beef up the rear sub frame area. The car is bone stock, clean and runs excellent and strong.
Wheels have some light scuffing due to the design. The front bumper cover has the usual small chips from driving in the local area, it’s straight and paint overall is in good condition.
Interior is in excellent condition.
It seems as though the current owner and seller is responsible for most of the recent maintenance, and notes the need for subframe reinforcement. Overall the car presents quite well; Estoril is a preferred color on these M Coupes and the matching leather is a nice touch if not to everyone’s taste. It’s also completely stock except for the recent Bilsteins, a bonus when getting into a BMW of this generation as we’ve seen. So the question is are you willing to take a branded title on a car that looks good as a driver for a discount over the rest of the market?

One of the best looking cars they ever made.
Well a branded title on a early 911 or any 356 wouldn’t matter at all in todays market…Z3 M coupes are limited in production so in future 10-20yrs , it probably won’t matter as much ..is the next owner willing to be a long term owner & keep the miles down & do all required subframe updates..if so I say $10,500 to 11g’s would be fair deal in current condition…
I looked at his M3 and that stick shift is crazy, lol.
I’d bite, yeah. As long as there’s no “frame damage”, LOL.
What is this “flex issue” ?
