2001 Audi A4 2.8 quattro

In the world of post A4 Audis, you’d be forgiven for thinking you went back to the old Westerns with tumbleweeds rolling across the screen when it comes to color selection. There are several different shades of grey or silver, a few whites, some blacks, and then occasionally a blue will pop up. Some really daring folks chose bright red or dark green, but unless you get into a “S” model, you’re not likely to see an unusual color. That’s unfortunate, because Audi actually offered you many very cool options in the B5 A4 throughout its run. However, if you lament the cool colors went away, it should be no surprise; very, very few people bought them. And given the A4s propensity for being discarded, they’re in most cases even more sparse than when new. Yet these special color cars tended to be bought by people who took good care of them, and usually come to market in fairly pristine shape – so I bet you can guess why this A4 is here today. A non sport package V6 tiptronic wouldn’t usually make the list, but a lower mile India Red Pearl Effect with Ecru/Onyx interior in very good overall condition? You bet:

I am selling my mother’s 2001 Audi A4. She special ordered this car in July of 2000 and waited two months for the car to arrive. She had to pay a nonrefundable deposit of $1,000.00 to order the car in case she didn’t like the color. She loved it after a lifetime of gray cars. She drove the car until she had to give up her driver’s license due to vision. She took exceptional care of the car. All oil changes and maintenance done when required.

The Audi was purchased from Three Rivers Audi in McMurray PA. She then took the car to Florida when she moved the summer of 2006. I have had the car for just under two years. Original books, paperwork, window sticker and brochure are included with the sale.

The car is in excellent condition with zero rust. Never been in an accident. She did have problems with backing out of her garage towards the end. Backing into the screens they have on garages in Florida and coming out a little crooked and clipping the driver’s front fender, which could have been fixed better. There is also a scrape on the rear bumper where she did not pull in the garage far enough and a bolt on the garage door scraped the rear bumper. Both of those issues are pictured. The driver’s information screen is losing some pixels and needs to be replaced. Again, this is shown in the pictures. This is a common problem with these cars. Car has always been garage kept. Never smoked in. A/C blows cold. Goodyear tires are in great condition.

There were many options available on the B5 S4; it’s a bit unfortunate that this car was optioned with the Sport package, but it does have the Premium package, quattro, tiptronic, Bose, leather and Xenon lights. You could have opted also for sport seats (semi-ironically not included in the sport package), the ski sack (also available as part of the Cold Weather package which this car doesn’t have), Navigation, ESP, and a Motorola phone. All things considered, this is a fairly well optioned A4, though it’s strange to see no heated seats paired with all-wheel drive in the otherwise luxury-oriented model. The 2.8 V6 was updated towards the end of the run with a move from 12 valves to 30; the resulting 18 horsepower gain won’t be felt by most, but the V6 was a smooth performer if not particularly exciting. But let’s be honest, the reason to consider this car is the condition, the miles, and the color; for the first two, the heartwarming story of the loving old woman who bought the car and waited for it is so uncommon to hear amongst A4 sales pitches, and makes sense. Both inside and out, this car looks to have been cared for and driven lightly – both generally not seen on B5 A4s of any ilk. Top that off with the quite rare India Red Pearl Effect, though, and it’s one pretty cool package to witness. Truth told, I’d prefer a manual, and if I got really picky I’d prefer one of the other mega-rare shades on the A4; Tropic Green or Brilliant Yellow (the former unavailable in 2001), or my personal favorite Pelican Blue. But India Red, which replaced Autumn Red as the coppery orange color in the A4 lineup, is certainly striking and uncommon to see. Hopefully the next owner of this car will appreciate the rarity and enjoy what may not be the most stunning performer, but what is certainly a lovely example of a fine Audi product all in all.

The interior contrasts are lovely. I guess I like the paint? I too like Pelican, but my favorite is Jaspis.

Nice colour but seems a tad expensive to me, I bought one for my son, same year, 10K less miles for $4500

Agreed, the price is towards the top of the market, especially considering the tiptronic configuration.
