2021 can’t close without me taking a look at an Audi S8. The last one I took a look at was just over a year ago, and it was a doozy:
Since then I’ve looked at both LWB and SWB A8s recently, but no S8s. Well, as luck would have it, a 2002 popped up for sale. It’s fairly common Light Silver Metallic outside, but inside we’ve got the optional partial Alcantara seats. It looks to be in good and mostly original condition, so let’s take a peek:

THIS IS ONE OF 117 2002 SILVER / BLACK S8 D2
ONE OF OUR PERSONAL FAVORITES !
FIRST PAINT ALL AROUND, NEVER DAMAGED, PERFECT HISTORY AND CARFAX
TIMING BELT + ALL BRAKES + AC NEW IN THIS PAST YEAR WITH ALL INVOICES
ALL ORIGINAL EXCEPT FULL SUPERSPRINT STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST
RARE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE AN UNMOLESTED ORIGIAL FIRST GEN S8
The big news is the claim of the timing belt, brake, and A/C services – none of which are cheap on the S8, at least in relative terms. The Supersprint exhaust system probably sounds great, and while there’s some wear showing it seems like this is a pretty clean one overall. Figuring that the recent services probably ate up ~$4,000, the real cost of the one seems to be fairly reasonable overall. As the pool of potential S8 candidates dwindles and they hit 20+ years old, just finding a solid basis seems like a good plan – and this one looks quite solid.

would rather have the six speed manual S8 that’s for sale on BAT right now… extremely well sorted and documented…
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-audi-s8-24/
or the s6 avant on cars & bids for that matter…

That S8 manual on BAT would worry me. First, everyone has seen how BAT prices are inflated, I swear it is a money laundering scheme. Second, the S8 is wrapped. Which means you should proceed assuming the underlying paint is shot. Never buy a wrapped car unless you have $5K set aside for a new paint job.
@zuul, also twice the price, though –
