I think it’s safe to say that the E39 M5 might be viewed in the coming decades as a high water mark for BMW. This car had the right stuff. A powerful V8, tuned chassis and any transmission you wanted as long as it was a 6-speed manual. With the quest for fuel economy and ever tightening emissions standards, it seems a formula like this is endangered. For the power hungry, however, now is a great time to pick up one of these modern classics. Those on a quest for a like new example will be intrigued by this example for sale in Pennsylvania.

I’ve seen a number of low mileage E39 M5s edging deep into $30k territory lately. In the case of some sellers, it’s most likely the sign of ambition, but given what we’ve seen with earlier M cars, it could be foreshadowing things to come. Chiaretto Red isn’t a common M5 color, but one which I think suits the design quite well. Given this car has one owner and service records, it’s certainly for the person on the hunt for a no excuses car. If this one could be had closer to the $30,000 mark or just a bit under, it would be well bought.

Since I have the poor man’s M5 (540i 6 speed) I truly would like to have M5 one of these days. I just don’t know who’s smoking crack here. The seller or the buyer willing to pay 37 large. The only more ridiculous prices are at that used car dealer in Cincinnati. Also, instead of listing service records, the seller is listing pointless generic description.
this Chiaretto Red beast has been floating around the market for a bit now…
price is very optimistic to say the least…
it is a uncommon color…..if it had the caramel interior it would really be a standout…
for a MY2002 it is in 2003 territory and lacking service records???
oh and ya think they used enough armor-all??
The carfax on the site makes me think they bought it at auction in late September. Should we be surprised that the place that took this in on trade elected to sell it at auction? Maybe the color is a hard sell?
