This car sold for $3,700 on June 29, 2021.
Back in January I took a look at a late B5 1.8T quattro Avant:
Audi continued the recipe for sales success in the B6 generation, largely carrying over the drivetrain more or less unchanged from late B5s to early B6s. However, soon into the run a nice change appeared; the sixth cog in the gearbox, which had previously been reserved for the 3.0 model. Under the hood still lay the AWM 170 horsepower version of the venerable motor, and like the B5 you had your choice of nice options like the Sport and Cold Weather packages. Today’s sedan has combined all of those things, and it’s a nice shade to boot! Today it’s a surprisingly hard package to find:

This auction is for a 2004 Audi A4 with the rare 6-speed manual transmission, 1.8L turbo 4 cylinder engine and Quattro All-Wheel Drive. It’s finished in Crimson Red Pearl paint, a $450 extra cost option.
The car is fully equipped with all the options. Premium Package with glass sunroof, Homelink garage door/gate opener, leather seats, 12-way power drivers seat and Driver Information Display. Sport Package with 17-inch aluminum wheels, Sport suspension and aluminum interior trim. Cold Weather Package with ski sack and heated front seats.
The car has below average miles and runs good. Air conditioning blows cold. Tires are good all around and it has a new Diehard battery. Cosmetically the interior could use some cleaning while the exterior has some dents and scratches as shown in the pictures. Car comes with all the books and keys as shown. The original price of the car was over $32,000 back in 2004.
I’m listing this car for a neighbor who doesn’t have an Ebay account and isn’t too tech savvy. If you have any questions I can’t answer myself, I will forward them to him or you can call him directly at 301-254-6023. Car has a clean Delaware title in his name and can be seen in Potomac Maryland.
The car is sold as is and buyers are welcome to inspect the car BEFORE the end of the auction. I have tried to accurately describe this car, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used vehicle including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description.
A deposit of $500 is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on pick up or by bank check from local bank during business hours and within 7 days from the end of the auction unless prior arraignments are made.
In addition to the aforementioned packages, this one also has the Premium Package that helped to raise the out-the-door price of this sedan to $32,500. Crimson Red Pearl Effect is a great color, and here it’s paired nicely with the understated beige leather. In all, it’s a well equipped example in nice shape with lower mileage. It’s not a super-desirable model like the Ultra Sport, but these 1.8Ts have proven more reliable than the 3.0 and make great drivers. So far it’s remained under $4,000, and to me it looks like a solid deal under 5-6k.

It looks like a nice example. I wish I were closer.
I agree…looks like a very good value.
I don’t know about the reliability of this car. Carter wrote this engine is more reliable than the bigger version, but I wonder about the overall build quality and longevity. That question aside, this is an ideal combination: turbo, awd, six speed manual, smaller engine/better fuel economy, leather, good sound, and good looks. Yes, please!
This is a keeper.
I’ll chime in on reliability. I’ve owned…lets see, 1,2,3,4 A4s with the 1.8t engine (3 B5s, 1 B6), and they were reliable for sure, but occasionally had some boost plumbing issues. I still have in my garage a B7 3.2 Avant, and with 177K miles, damn this thing keeps on going with very little maintenance or repairs. Not sure what the difference is between the 3.0 and early 3.2 but they seem very very similar, so I suspect just a displacement bump and a few tweaks. Notorious for valve cover leaks ( like ANY German car), but that was a somewhat easy 4 hour job at home.
