Whereas the original moved turbocharging and all-wheel drive to the masses, the R8 instead took supercars to a new tier. A celebration of their many wins at Le Mans by the race car of the same designation, the R8 was initially powered by the spectacular 4.2 FSi V8 from the RS4. Later Audi developed its own version of the 5.2 V10 whose sound channeled the original Quattro, and the final development was the introduction of the Spyder model. With slightly revised bodywork – including the removal of the polarizing “blade” the coupe has – the R8 V10 Spyder is a compelling alternative to the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and truly offers supercar-level performance at a relatively budget price:

Up for sale my 2011 R8 Spyder V10 with the desireable and rare 6 speed manual transmission .
I am the original owner having purchased vehicle approx. 1 1/2 years ago brand new from the Audi dealership.
Car has been used seldomly and has only 2500 carefully driven miles! She rests in a climate controlled with a car cover.
Vehicle looks as if it just came out of the wrapper with no blemishes on either the exterior or interior.

This car was certainly well specified when bought by the owner, and while impressive it’s also sad that they only enjoyed it for a scant 2,500 miles. It’s doubtful that such a supercar will live anything other than a pampered life, but at the top of the heap in the Audi model range, it’s also unlikely that prices on these cars will ever be cheap. However, as cars move farther and farther into a digital age – with concerns about fuel economy, safety and automatic systems – we may very well look back on this car as one of the last great driver’s cars. Top down, howling V10 behind your ears, 6-speed manual in your hand and your best friend by your side – sounds priceless to me.
