1971 Porsche 911T

For any buyer hoping to own a long-hood 911 for the lowest cost there are two primary options (excluding the option of buying a car in serious need of restoration). The first is to forgo the plan of getting a 911 at all and find an excellent 912 instead. Same basic design and layout, but with a flat-4 rather than a flat-6. The other option is to spend a bit more money and find a well maintained 911T. The 911T effectively became Porsche’s entry-level model once 912 production was ceased and both models offered similar levels of performance and refinement, especially when viewed through the lens of a modern automobile. For the 1970 and 1971 model years the 911 featured a 2.2 liter flat-6 engine delivering power to the rear wheels via a standard 4-speed or optional 5-speed manual transmission. The example featured here in a very period-correct Olive Green is a 1971 Porsche 911 T, located in Miami, with the more desirable 5-speed manual transmission.

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE with 80k Original Miles

Survivor is a term bandied about in the automotive enthusiast communities but it’s not always the case that a car will live up to the hype. Head west to California, however, and the state offers a treasure trove of all sorts of classic iron, from muscle cars to classic luxury, such as this one-owner 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE with 80,000 original miles. It’s rather remarkable that a car over 40 years old hasn’t cracked six figures in the mileage department yet, as you could consider my mom’s 2000 C280 sedan with 115,000 miles as a little on the low side for the year. But this car, sold via the European Delivery program and having lived its life in California, has escaped the ravages of the years.

Heap of the Week 2: 1987 BMW M6

“It was a running driving car when parked” has to be one of the most pointless things that is put into a used car advertisement. First off, in order to park, most cars needed to run. They need to drive to where they were parked. But then, something happened. Something happened that made you not go start the car again. Sure, we hear the stories from time to time about an owner who died, left the country, suddenly became completely uninterested in the car. But usually, those cars are first generation Ford Tauruses or Jeep Wranglers; it’s not often that they’re a 1987 BMW M6. Well, we do get the typical ad lines – selling for a friend’s widow, car ran when parked, looks good when sprayed with water. But with the frenzy of activity in the M market these days, is it worth the risk to step into a legenary S38-powered M6 that’s been sitting for 15 years?

Tuner Tuesday: 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster Twin-Turbo

If the insanity of the crazy modified 80s wasn’t enough for you in earlier’s DP 935 Targa, how about a 962-powered 911 Speedster? Sound absolutely bonkers? Yup, it sure is. But in the no holds barred world of the well-heeled, you can create just about anything that you want. Borrowing elements from the 962, 934, 959 and DP935 and adding them to the already quite rare and valuable Speedster, Bruce Canepa created the ultimate enthusiast’s dream of a convertible 911:

Tuner Tuesday: 1988 Porsche 911 Targa DP935 – REVISIT

Now primed for summer, the 1988 Porsche 911 Targa DP 935 Slantnose we wrote up earlier this year is still for sale. In the world of original DP cars, this is a bit of an oddity, but also more affordable than most of its turbocharged brothers. Will it leave you seeing red?
