1983 Porsche 928S 5-speed Euro-Spec

It’s been both great and bad to have a resource like Flüssig Magazine’s Pablo join our ranks. It’s great because Pablo is a wealth of knowledge and a great resource on these classic front-engined Porsches; it’s bad because I’m now petrified I’ll make a mistake or choose a bad example. Sometimes, though, you need to roll the dice – and today’s European-spec 1983 928S is just one of those times. Presented in light bronze with brown leather, this 928 looks both refined and striking – but is it a good example to buy?

1984 BMW M635CSi

Yesterday, Nate wrote up a last-of-the-run 1988 M6 for a budget price. He noted that $12,000 seemed like a deal for a 107K mile car with that magical S38 power plant hidden under the long hood, but concerns about maintenance costs linger with any of these complicated machines. It wouldn’t take you long if you dove into the motor to double that initial investment. Well, from last of the run to first, perhaps this 1984 M635CSi is a better proposition? It’s got a lighter curb weight, more pure European lines outside, and an even more potent engine thanks to the M88/3 pumping a few extra non-catalyzed ponies. Presented in black over black with a great set of BBS RC wheels, it sure looks fresh despite being 30 years old:

1985 Bitter SC 3.9

As an automotive blog, we receive our fair share of emails suggesting we feature specific cars. Often they’re popular versions of cars that everyone likes to see; M3s, S6s, M5s, 190E 2.3 16Vs – the usual suspects. But probably once every other week or so someone spots something legitimately rare to see; this past week, we were sent two such gems. One was a rare Mercedes-Benz L319 delivery van – it was in rough shape but all there, and they’re very cool to see, with perhaps only single digit numbers in the United States – thanks to our reader Kurt for sending that one through, it had us dreaming! The other was an equally rare sight these days, but this car represented the opposite end of the spectrum from the Mercedes. Clearly loved and well cared for by the seller, this 1985 Bitter SC features the later, 207 horsepower 3.9 inline-6 and is presented in pleasing Anthracite Grey:

1990 Volkswagen Corrado G60

Last month, Carter featured an impossibly clean Corrado SLC with very low mileage. A lot of these sport coupes were snapped up by young enthusiasts a few years on and sadly were modified beyond recognition. I remember frequenting Volkswagen shows during my college years and seeing many of these cars chopped up, driven hard and laid up wet. Now two decades since the last Corrados were sold new in the US, a good one is hard to come by. This silver, one-owner Corrado G60 for sale in Connecticut is fairly original with little modification but has high mileage. The G60 isn’t the more desirable powerplant in the model lineup, but given the condition, this car is sure to catch its fair share of attention.

1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E

It’s been over a decade since I last hopped behind the wheel of one, but I still remember my last encounter with a Mercedes-Benz 500E. Harmless enough though it looks, it packs a big bite. Acceleration, braking and handling were a revelation for a luxury sedan of its day, even if this car had serious sporting intentions imbued in it by Porsche. For a while, these special W124s were somewhat affordable but values have been on the climb, even for those with more than 100,000 miles on the clock. This 500E, replete with monoblocks, has 136k miles on the clock but looks to be well cared for.
