I haven’t featured a Porsche 911 Speedster in a little while. Like other rare 911 models that we see up for auction fairly frequently many of them seem more or less the same so without some aspect that makes it stand apart I tend to pass them by. They come in few colors and many sit with very low mileage and in very good condition. Many were bought by collectors and have remained with collectors. The 911 Speedster we see here does stand apart for its unique color combination so it caught my eye, even if we could do with some better pictures to help showcase the car. Those colors are Linen Grey over Mahogany. The former I’ve seen a few times and it’s always somewhat of an interesting choice as it kind of makes for an inside-out Carrera – Linen being a very popular interior color on 911s of this vintage. It isn’t an exciting color though. The latter color I can’t recall coming across at all. Mahogany is in the vein of brown or chocolate that Porsche offered as an interior color in the late-70s and early-80s, but this might be the first late-model 3.2 Carrera I’ve seen with a brown interior. A brown interior isn’t always to everyone’s taste, but I think the fact that Mahogany appears to be a lighter shade of brown will give it wider appeal. Either way, it’s certainly rare and that’s the key here.

It would be easy to assume that AMG didn’t breath on the R107 chassis, instead focusing on the coupes and sedans that made them famous. The feel of the roadster is decidedly different and more cruiser than the Autobahn destroyers that the company produced. But AMG did produce parts for the SL – it’s just that not many were modified in the same vein as their stablemates. When properly presented, though, they do manage to channel AMG’s best qualities well. Subtle upgrades all around led to a more aggressive aesthetic, but not one that was ever over the top. And the SL remained one of the few premium convertibles you could buy in the 1980s, so unless you undertook an expensive conversion to a coupe, the topless R107 was a natural choice for the well-to-do who also loved wind in their hair. Yet most of these SLs ended up primarily as appearance packages – but they still make a statement:

Comments closedOf all of the BMWs that have come and gone over the last two decades, the E39 5 series happens to be one of my favorite, ranking right up there with the E38 7 series and iconic M Coupe. While there are still a good number of clean, low mileage M5s circulating around, these come with a high price. However, if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of performance but maybe want something a bit more tame and reasonable on the wallet for daily use, this 530i for sale in Florida should work just nicely. Finished in Blue Water Metallic and sitting on Style 42 alloys, this low mileage beauty is bound to make some Bimmer enthusiast happy.

5 CommentsWhile on a business trip to The Netherlands last month, I happened upon a very clean Mercedes-Benz 560SEL parked on the edge of one of the famous canals of Amsterdam. This car, like much of the older metal tooling around this capitol city, was in quite mint condition. The dedication of the Dutch to classic vehicles is quite impressive and warms my heart, as I find little out there on the new car market these days that I’m interested in. The W126 is one of those cars I wished they still produced to this day, as it just has a timeless air about it. I highly doubt that years from now, the last three generations of S-classes will age quite as graceful as this car has. It was one of Bruno Sacco’s best designs, in my opinion. If you missed your chance at a new 560SEL, this example for sale in New Jersey has covered just over 14,000 miles, making it one of the lowest mileage examples on the marque. It comes, however, with a stiff price tag.
