Andrew’s Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG post had me considering my last car, a W203 2007 C230 Sport. Truth be told, I didn’t like that car all that much. The 7-speed automatic was overkill for the V6, leading the gearbox to hunt around too much and the lack of standard features such as auxiliary input for the stereo and fold down rear seats were bewildering on a car costing over $35,000 new. And while the interior fittings were upgraded in 2005, the overall package left a bit to be desired, especially if you were used to Mercedes-Benzes of yore. I’m a much bigger fan of the C-class that preceded the W203, the W202. While my 1998 C230 only had a 2.3 liter inline-4 mated to a 5-speed automatic, it was a much more well-rounded package with a big helping of that old school Mercedes feel. I dearly miss that car and this 1998 C230 for sale in Florida has me missing it even more.

A couple weeks ago I wrote a sort of ode to purple as an exterior color in regard to an Aubergine 911T. Here we have another purple 911 and while Amaranth Violet doesn’t quite possess the same elegance and beauty as Aubergine it is probably an even more rare choice among the models of any marque. Like Aubergine, this color doesn’t hide its purple, in fact it’s even more upfront about it and wouldn’t be mistaken for any other color. For some that in itself might be an issue, but it kind of works on the 993 in a way that I think it would not on earlier 911s. Regardless, owners of these cars are likely to very rarely, if ever, come across another one. We certainly can’t decry its uniqueness. Here we have an Amaranth Violet 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Texas, with 81,088 miles on it.

Comments closedThe California-based tuning company Dinan has been providing performance upgrades for BMWs since 1979. There’s no shortage of newer cars on the market that purport to have some kind of mods from the firm; 20 cars come up in eBay right now under a search for Dinan, and Carter wrote up this neat ’08 550i M Sport Dinan the other day, for example. But it’s even more interesting to stumble upon an example of an older car with some Dinan components, like this ’95 540i.

2 CommentsLast week I wrote up a clean and low-mileage E32 740i, noting that examples of this generation of the 7-series rarely come to market in such decent shape. A few days later, Carter shot me an email with a link to this lovely looking ’88 750iL. The flagship of the E32 lineup, and available only in LWB form, the 750 was powered by a hulking 5.0 liter V12 unit, essentially two six-cylinder motors stuck together. They crop up from time to time on Craigslist and on eBay, but mostly as basket cases, with shot exteriors, torn up interiors and numerous electronic and mechanical gremlins. This car, on the other hand, appears to have received the kind of love and attention that these old cruisers really deserve.

3 CommentsAs I’ve been finding and writing about a good number of 930s and 993 Turbos I’ve been meaning to come back around to the 3.3 liter 964 Turbo to check in on where the market stands and just generally appreciate these cars. My desire came to a head after I happened across one in the city a couple weeks ago. It stood out more than I would have expected, especially given how common a 911 Turbo is on our streets. But this was different – I nearly walked into traffic. Granted, I’m more drawn to these than your average person wandering the streets, but still the sound and look immediately made clear to me that I needed to pay attention. So here we have one. Guards Red certainly isn’t a hugely unique color, but it’s still a good one and this particular one does come with a more unique interior than what I’m accustom to seeing. Grey wouldn’t be everyone’s choice, but it’s still nice to have some variation among the many Red/Black examples we see. This Guards Red 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Utah, sits with 39,523 miles on it and though the color in the pictures seems somewhat off it still presents very well and promises to turn quite a few heads.
