2017 BMW M3 30 Jahre Edition

Back in August 2020, I took a look at one of the more odd celebrations of BMW history – the BMW M3 30 Jahre Edition:

Why was it odd? Well, first off they chose to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the M3 with a car that shared almost nothing outside of the Roundels, the color – Macao Blue – and the M3 nameplate. That meant it was a sedan instead of the 2-door coupe, turbocharged instead of naturally aspirated, and full of gadgets that couldn’t even be considered when the original first arrived. Still, they’re neat and potent cars, with the S55 banging out 444 horsepower in Competition Package trim. At the time, I said the one to get was one of the rare manuals. Surprisingly, there aren’t hard numbers on exactly how many manual M3 30 Jahres were imported. There were 150 total brought in, and the estimates are that 30-40 of those were manual-equipped cars. This one looks great, and while it’s not fully stock the Bilstein coilover suspension is a top-dollar mod. The asking price is steep – $85,000 is all the money for one today, and gets you into a newer model with zero miles. Also frustrating is that the car was apparently available a year ago for some $30,000 less. Also, if you just want a roughly equivalent M3 6-speed, that’s about what you’re looking at – mid to high 50s, like this 2018 Yas Marina Blue example with almost exactly the same mileage. I like the 30 Jahre and it’s definitely the more collectable of the two, but I’d personally I’d be driving the Yas Marina example home.
