No stranger to these pages, you’re already likely familiar with why this car is here. But if you’re new to GCFSB and would like a quick overview of what was special about the early 90s Audi/Volkswagen lineup, I dove in a bit in May 2020:

Of the 149 200 20V quattro Avants originally imported here, it’s safe to say a fair number have gone the way of the dodo. So while today’s car is far from pristine, it’s still worth a look. And, as a plus, it’s also no reserve!

1995 Audi S6 Avant Euro-Spec

This C4 is listed as sold for $12,950 on November 20, 2021.

Back in January (and, again in July!) I took a look at this European-specification 1995 Audi S6 Avant. So why is it back? Well, in July it moved to a different seller, has different photos, and is now a no reserve auction. Strangely, the new photos also appear to be taken in Europe, but the car is claimed to be in Stamford, Connecticut – and the July auction was also supposed to be no reserve, but here’s the car again – and, again, with a slightly different description with some contact information. Each time a bit of new information is disclosed. Scam? Perhaps, but if you’re interested maybe it’s worth a call.

It used to be a bit unusual to see 90s-era European-specification cars come this way. But with the advent of the internet and 25-year-old cars being relatively cheap in other areas of the world, coupled with a current soaring market in the US and nostalgia for easier (they weren’t, but it’s okay to think they were) times, it’s less unusual to see Euro-only models for sale stateside. That’s not the case today; this S6 Avant was available here in nearly identical spec. However, there are a few things interesting on this one and it’s worth taking a look:

2003 BMW 330i Sedan ZHP Performance Package

Developed by BMW Individual, the ZHP Performance Package added $3,900 to the price of your 330i model. That sounds like a lot, but you got some meaningful upgrades. M-Tech body pieces adorned the car front, sides and rear and blacked out trim replaced the chrome. So too were M-branded special Style 135 18″ wheels, with tires to match the width of bigger brother M3. Lower and stiffer suspension was met with more negative camber, special reinforcement, and revised control arms. The engine was upgraded too, with unique cams and a revised engine map resulting in 10 more horsepower, but the ZHP was more than 10 hp quicker off the line thanks to a shorter final drive and a 6-speed manual borrowed from M.

These are fan favorites, and can draw really big bids – indeed, some sell for more than M3s. Let’s take a look at this Imola Red example and see where it falls:

2002 Porsche Boxster S

Have you ever wondered what a 986 Porsche Boxster would look like as a Cayman? Well, here we go. What we have today is a 2002 Porsche Boxster S with a Z-Art Zeintop hardtop. Normally, the 986 Boxster hardtop mirrored the shape of the soft top, but the aftermarket Zeintop added a hatch component that actually looks really nice. Naturally this isn’t something you pop on in 10 minutes, but once everything is bolted up, it seems to look pretty slick.

2022 Porsche Boxster 25 Years

2022 Porsche Boxster 25 Years

It is hard to believe that the original Porsche Boxster is turning 25 years old in 2022. When the concept was pitched back in the mid-90s, lots of people thought it was going to be a modern 550 Spyder, but in reality it was more like a 914. Performance was extremely lacking and the styling that was shown during the concept ending up getting beaten to death by the engineers and accountants when it was all said and done. Now 25 years later, the Boxster is a serious performance car with the GTS 4.0 and the 718 Spyder hatched by the GT department. Of course, Porsche never being one to pass up a special edition, they launched the Boxster 25 Years. Yeah, that is the name.

Just 1,250 will be made in either GT Silver Metallic to mimic the original concept, as well as Jet Black and Carrara White. All have the gold wheels and gold accents, and the interior can either be black leather or the Bordeaux Red. From there, go nuts with your typical 718 options – although the carbon buckets aren’t offered. For the powerplant, they went with the 4.0 from the GTS, not the 4.0 from the GT4/Spyder. Still, that is absolutely nothing to complain about with 394 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, along with a 0 to 60 mph time in 4.1 seconds with the PDK gearbox. That is really fast. Starting price is just over $100,000, which is just $2,000 more than the 718 Spyder if you can believe that. This example up for sale in North Carolina with just 36 miles? We might have a new leader in the clubhouse for mark-up.
