About a week ago I posted a 1991 Volkswagen GTi 8V in Montana Green on our Facebook fan page. It wasn’t the best example, but it wasn’t horrible either and as I said finding these Mk. 2 GTis in rare colors such as Montana Green in original condition is really quite hard. For whatever reason, the questionable tastes of the watercooled crowds have claimed many victims who have suffered countless horrendous modifications in lieu of strong maintenance and careful ownership. Consequently, original condition GTis tend to command the strongest money out there, and today is no exception. Sure, you can find a VR6 or 1.8T swapped GTi from this generation for less money just about any day of the week, but if you really want to relive the days of the hot hatch at Volkswagen, the hottest setup you could get was the 1990-1992 GTi 16V 2.0, and today we see one in original configuration and relatively unmolested. Care to play the lottery? You might just need to to afford one of these:

Aside from some upgraded Bilsteins, G60 brakes and Techtonics exhaust, this car remains pretty much mechanically as it came from the factory – and that’s a great thing. Externally, the only real change is the eyebrow lip – generally a pretty easily reversible item to the new owner’s taste. Critically things that enthusiasts want to see is a clean exterior, those original BBS RM wheels and a clean Recaro interior. In all cases here, this car gets check marks; and as a bonus it looks fantastic in Montana Green. Miles are lower, the A/C works, and it seems to have a good maintenance history. Downsides? It’s going to cost you; anyone into these GTis know they’re not cheap, especially when in Montana Green. Most times you need to source the original BBS wheels and sometimes interior pieces – buying those two can cost up to $3,000 without the car. To me, that means the $8,000 asking price isn’t really too far out of line. Don’t like the price? Find another, as the saying goes. Were it my money, I wouldn’t wait around to find a better example because when and if you do find it, it’ll probably be more money.

“….hmprh….guess I might as well sell the car….” *sips beer* “…screw it, better giver her a wash first…”
Aside from the not small ding on the pass door and maybe right rear corner this looks soooo minty. But the ecu was replaced? Some of the items on that list seem a wee bit suspect for it’s miles if genuine. Having said that I am panting at my desk. My office mate is looking at me funny
Is the car by any chance still available?
Nadim,
It was an EBay auction that ended some time ago, so I don’t believe it is.
Good luck!
