There is always something satisfying about the Mercedes-Benz W123 chassis. Even more so when it is preserved like today’s example. This 1979 240D up for sale in Florida is finished in the wonderful Caledonia Green with matching hubcaps and a light beige interior. The odometer says 68,000 miles but I usually only trust these odometers as far as I can push them; though, all things considered, this one might actually be a low-mileage car. It’s all roses until you see the price.

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a 1980 Porsche 930 Turbo in one of my favorite paint-to-sample colors – Viola Metallic. It’s deep enough that it certainly looks like a special color and can blend in when needed without being so purple that it looks like Barney the Dinosaur driving down the road. Turns out I’m not alone as people are still dishing out large amounts of money to paint it on the current generation 911. And what better model than the GT3 Touring?

The year is 2023 and I’m still discovering vehicles that I always thought existed, but could never prove because I had never actually seen one. That changes today with the 1998 Mercedes-Benz G43 AMG. Yes, G43. This is a W463 with the AMG-tuned 4.3-liter M113 that is most known for being in the C43 AMG. The selling dealer claims this was built for the Japanese market and resided there until imported back to Germany in 2019. Stated production was just 10, and I am inclined to believe that given I’ve never actually seen one before. I love it.

Some cars just have all the juicy details. Today’s car is one of those. This is one of many G-Body Porsche 911 Carreras, but I can probably guess it is the only one finished in the very rare Lagoon Green Metallic over a leather-to-sample interior … and over 276,000 miles on the odometer. Where to even begin?

I’ve said it before, but there is such a thing as too much when it comes to design and colors. Maybe doing 11 different colors on your build is about seven too many. Just because they offer it, doesn’t mean you should click the little box. Today’s car, a terrific 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder, maybe falls into that category of doing too much. Take a look and you’ll see what I mean.
