It seems hard to believe that cars from the eighties are considered classics these days. Time flies, as it seems like yesterday that I remember seeing cars like the Porsche 944 Turbo and BMW E24 M6 sitting on the showroom floor, brand new. For a while, these two-door towers of power could be had for a mere fraction of what they cost new. However, collectors are becoming hip to the scene, recognizing these vehicles for their outstanding abilities. First up, we’ll take a look at this 944 Turbo for sale in Georgia with under 60,000 miles on the odometer.

If you aren’t much one for track days but are looking for the brawn the flat-6 engine provides over the flat-4, you’ll want to check out this 914-6 for sale in California with a GT spec 2.5 liter engine. It may not be done up in full on race livery, but if you have the nerve, imagine what a weapon this thing would be at the next autocross event near you.

2 CommentsTowards the end of the 1960s, Volkswagen was planning for the eventual demise of the Beetle, but it still wasn’t clear exactly the direction the company would take. There were a few fits and starts with front-engined, water-cooled models and developments on the tried and true rear-engine, air-cooled model, such as the 412. Volkswagen even was looking at a mid engine layout as flüssig magazine detailed a few months ago in their piece on the EA266. The Beetle sedan soldiered on for a while, though, with the last one rolling off the assembly line in Germany in 1977. The convertibles would cease production in 1979, with Beetle production continuing on in Brasil until 1996 and Mexico until 2003.
This 1969 example for sale in Illinois has been lovingly restored in a pretty Diamond Blue, having only passed through the hands of two owners.

3 CommentsLest I trick some of our readers into thinking its some kind of SUV week around here at GCFSB, we’ll follow on to the X5 4.6is we featured on Monday with that truck’s successor, the X5 4.8is. 2004 would bring a facelift for the first generation X5, which would be exiting stage right in 2006. But BMW decided to have one more go at the über SUV formula by jamming almost 5.0 liters of V8 under the hood, good for 355 bhp. While the black 4.6is we saw on Monday was a bit stealth, you won’t miss this Imola Red 4.8is if it was coming at you.
