This One Goes to 11: 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series

If the regular CLK63 AMG just wasn’t bonkers enough for you, then AMG offered the “Black Series” – the entire car turned up another notch. But for some, the Black just isn’t bad enough, and this one particular CLK63 AMG Black Series was taken to DTM-race ready levels. Tired of hearing about your neighbor’s M3 or Cayman R lap times? The solution is here. We saw this car in September 2014 with an astounding asking price of $160,000. It’s back at a much more budget-friendly $75,000 today. The best part? This car has a switch labeled “violence”. It’s totally unnecessary, and totally awesome…

2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4WD

s-l1600 (2)
Starting with the 2015 model year, Mercedes-Benz started producing the Sprinter van with four-wheel drive for the US market. While the Sprinter has been one of the ideal, cost-is-no-object adventure vans for a while, the relative lack of 4WD left Ford Sportsvans and Syncro Westies as the true kings of the go-anywhere home on wheels class. Well, that’s all fixed now, and you can spend scores of thousands of dollars on a Mercedes-built, diesel-powered, all-wheels-driving box. This particular 2015 model is the specification I’d want – the 144-inch wheelbase is more manageable in the real world compared to the 170, while the High Roof makes standing up a reality and storage options plentiful. This couple bought it to install a wheelchair lift (available for extra money if you want it) for their son and drive to the mountains, but the high-top wasn’t the right fit for them so they’re selling it with just 2k miles on it.

Tuner Tuesday: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 Coupe “CE36 AMG”

Generally we focus on different angles, heritage or the performance of a car, but today I want to talk about the smell. Strange? No, in three separate conversations with different groups of enthusiasts, the smell of a particular run of car has come up. Now, my wife attributes it to the degradation of “horrible 1980s plastics” and more than likely she’s right. That warm and fuzzy feeling that you get – let’s call it ‘Old Car Smell’ – is probably giving you some type of unbeatable cancer. But do we love it? You bet. Over the summer when my friend Tom dropped off the 1987.5 Coupe GT, opening the door welcomed me into the exact same smell of my 1986 Coupe. And the same thing happened when I bought the M3; popping open the door revealed nearly the same scent as I recall my father’s M5 having the first time I got in. Not to be outdone, recently we posted a E500 and the comments veered off from talking about the typical attributes of the super sedan to the particular smell of the W124. And, oddly, when pondering this E320 coupe, the first reaction I had was that of wondering what it smelled like inside…

1981 Mercedes-Benz 300D

I have vivid memories as a child of one of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic models over the last 40 years: the W123. The diesel variants particular stand out; their clatter as they ramble down the road was distinctive. The deliberate thunk as you would shut the doors and the seemingly magical way they would soak up the imperfections in the tarmac, even it it was a taxi with high mileage that was navigating the cobblestone streets of some old European city. These cars were and still are marvels. Upon a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart nine years ago, I was in awe of the like new examples the museum had in their collection, dreaming of being able to purchase a new W123 once again. Well, this 1981 300D for sale in Pennsylvania is about as close as you can get to showroom fresh. While this one predates the turbocharged 300D that came later, it still has a lot of appeal.

Now Legal for Import Double Take: Mercedes-Benz 190E Sportlines

Look closely and you might mistake these two Mercedes-Benz 190Es and you might mistake them for any other run of the mill W201. Dig a little deeper and you’ll notice they are sitting just a little bit lower on their haunches and a small badge on the lower front fender: Sportline. This was an option that added a tauter suspension and differing interior trim to the usual baby Benz package. While the 190E 2.3-16, 2.5-16 and Evo models carried the performance torch for the W201 lineup, the Sportline option gave buyers the ability to have something just a bit different than your run of the mill Mercedes sedan. First up, we have a 1990 190E 2.6 Sportline for sale south of Munich, Germany with just 53,000 miles on the clock.
