1979 Porsche 928 with 29k miles

You won’t get something if you don’t ask for it. The seller of this 1979 Porsche 928 must be a firm believer in that aphorism, as their asking price is certainly a record breaker for an American spec 928 of this vintage. We’ve seen 928’s follow an upward value trend that seems to have become characteristic of quondam Porsches. More specifically, we saw a 1995 GTS fetch a record breaking $132,000 at an Amelia Island auction in March, placing it $32,000 over its highest estimated sale price. It was one of the few cars that sold for above any of its estimates. Many people were surprised by this, but it wasn’t entirely unexpected to those of us “in the know.”

This car appears to be pretty well presented, and wears a popular and very saleable black/tan color combination in the form of Schwartz paint and Cork interior. The paint is described by the seller to be totally original, but I’d like to see some paint thickness gauge readings as confirmation. With 29,000 miles, this is certainly one of the lower-mileage early cars out there, and the cosmetic condition appears to be commensurate with the low mileage.

1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe

My quest for interesting 964s continues apace and while many of them exist they are rarely easy to find. Enter the example we see here, a rare Diamond Blue Metallic 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe, located in Florida, with Marine Blue leather interior and a robust 155,102 miles on it. Readers might recall that I featured a Diamond Blue Metallic 3.2 Carrera Coupe last week with a similarly contrasting interior. That 911 offers a nice juxtaposition for grasping the changes Porsche instituted when it debuted the 964, the first full redesign the 911 had seen in over a decade. The new shape was a little rounder, a little more stocky looking. It also came with a host of technological changes, most significantly the debut of the Carrera 4 – Porsche’s first all-wheel drive 911. While the system has seen significant improvements since its debut it still stands as one of the more significant changes brought to the quirky engineering of Porsche’s most iconic road car.

1996 Porsche 911 Turbo

The 993 has remained a perpetually expensive car, or at least so it seems. Unlike both its predecessors and its successors values have never really dipped into the territory where buyers can begin to view them as potential values on the 911 market. As the last of the air-cooled 911s this shouldn’t really come as a surprise, but for those who really love these cars it still may bring a degree of frustration. This is especially true with the 993 Turbo where the mix of increased performance paired with evolving technology has placed them consistently out of reach for most. The example we see here, quite frankly, isn’t really any different, but because it has some miles on it, it has at least escaped the very high asking prices we see sellers hoping to extract from any low-mileage Turbo. With the 911 market generally at a standstill there may not be a much better time to try to get into one of these Turbos. Here we have a Guards Red over Marble Grey 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Florida, with 59,800 miles on it.

1969 Porsche 911S Coupe

We all love to see a nice early 911S and the example here is of particular interest as it’s one of the very few I have come across in this sort of darker metallic red. I don’t know if this shade will be as popular as the pastel colors, especially those like pastel blue or tangerine, but I’m actually really surprised by how good this 911 looks in this color. The darker metallic blues have always shown well on the early 911 design and it appears that the same holds true for red. Here we have a nicely restored Dark Red Metallic 1969 Porsche 911S Coupe, located in Florida, with just over 300 miles on it since its restoration.

1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa on auction with 7,646 miles

This one primarily serves to satisfy my curiosity, though I hope it satisfies the curiosity of some of our readers as well. Here we have an ultra-low mileage triple Black 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, located in New Jersey, up for a reserve auction. The fact that it is even up for auction is what has attracted my curiosity. Since it’s a reserve auction we may not see it sell, but that’s fine; my interest is how high bidding will go. Why someone would put so few miles on what is a pretty standard 911, I have no idea, but here we are so we might as well check in on what presents as an almost new 3.2 Carrera Targa.
