1975 Porsche 914 1.8

Rob is on holiday this week, so I’m going to take it upon me to throw a few Porsches out there in his absence. The 914 was the predecessor to the 924, itself another close collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche. Offered in both four and six cylinder trim, this 1975 1.8 liter for sale in Florida represents the second to last year for this model, one which is often forgotten in the annals of Porsche history. Kermit the Frog said once “it ain’t easy bein’ green.” Perhaps the same is true on being a 914.

Citron Coupes: 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera & 1996 Porsche Carrera 4S

Yellow is a color more akin to some Italian exotics, but occasionally you’ll come across some of Stuttgart’s finest in this eye-popping hue. Porsche produced a number of different yellows over the years, and here are two air-cooled examples slathed in this bright shade. First up is a 1987 911 Coupe in Summer Yellow for sale in Florida.

Tuner Tuesday: 1994 Porsche 911 Strosek Mega Widebody Speedster

If the BMW E30 market has been crazy over the past few years in terms of appreciation, it’s really nothing compared to the Porsche 911 market. From cars that were worth between $50,000 to $75,000 not many years ago, suddenly we see early 911s worth triple or four times that amount. Make that car a special model, such as a 73 RS, and you’re looking at a top value around $800,000 and climbing; around $650,000 more than it would set you back only 7 years ago. This has resulted in many other models of the 911 being pulled up, and one of the more recent special models that has continued to have a strong market following is the Speedster model. However, does that increased value get boosted or negated when you look at a modified version of the original – a car like this Strosek wide body version of the 1994 Speedster:

Motorsport Mondays: 1986 Porsche 944 Rothmans Cup

There are people who will definitely “get” this car, and those that will scratch their heads. A lot of it comes down to priorities and what you’d like to do, honestly. If you just want to go to the track, you could easily buy any number of Porsches or other cars that would be considerably faster than what is effectively just a lightened and stiffened naturally aspirated Porsche 944. While they’re well balanced and entertaining to drive, they’re certainly not the rocket ships people usually associate with the terms Porsche Race Car. However, what they are is very special – the Rothmans Cup was a limited run of special cars with special drivers. Together, they created a racing history that many fans still talk about. The precursor to race series like the Turbo Cup and Carrera Cup, this was a defacto Porsche factory effort – and the result of that is that this car is classified with the very rare group of cars that are Porsche factory race cars:
