I’m not sure if it’s the onset of winter or just a seller’s market, but it seems we have been coming across a lot of Targas for sale lately. Even better, they have been a bunch of very nice examples either in interesting colors or low mileage, or both. This one is neither of those things, but it’s still very pretty and has the distinction of being a one-owner car that has seen fairly reasonable mileage over its 25+ years of existence. I suppose it is also fitting that I return to the classic 911 Targa as a follow-up to yesterday’s redesigned 993 Targa. Porsche first introduced the Targa in 1967, with both soft-window and fixed-window versions eventually available, and while it would take a year or two off here and there the Targa has remained a staple of the 911 lineup for much of the car’s existence, even after the release of the 911 Cabriolet. The design remains somewhat a peculiarity of Porsche itself as very few other automakers have ever bothered with producing a Targa, with even fewer continuing to produce them today. These owe their initial existence to Porsche’s constant forward-thinking engineering and their continued existence to Porsche’s commitment to providing its customers with offerings intended to suit nearly every desire. With the original Targa design returning to the 911 lineup we may even begin to see the air-cooled models garner increased interest as nostalgia weighs on the current market. So as we turn back to that classic design, here we have a “one-owner” Guards Red 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, located in Washington state, with 120,000 miles on it.

The C4 Audi S6 Avant is certainly one of the best packages Audi has ever produced as an all-around car; legendary reliability, tuning potential, all-wheel drive, go anywhere ability coupled with good classic looks in a versatile 5-door configuration. While I’d argue we didn’t get the best of the bunch with the S6+ Avant, most fans of the C4 love the AAN turbocharged inline-5 for its Group B soundtrack and grunt. Today, thanks to contributions from our readers Daniel and John, I’ve got a lineup of 5 different colored Avants; ranging not only the spectrum of color but also price. Which is the winner? Let’s start with the Emerald Green Mica example:

12 CommentsThe Eurovan may be the least-loved generation of VW vans, but it’s grown on me. Similarly, non-poptop campers have become a new object of desire, bringing simplicity and sleek looks while still providing significant capability. This teal van has a convertible bed out of the rear seats as well as a table in the middle, with a rare drivetrain combo in the inline-5 and manual. All told, it looks like a great deal to be able to tackle all kinds of adventures for well under $10k.

1 CommentThe Mercedes-Benz 500E to me, in many ways, is the ultimate Mercedes-Benz. It embodied everything that made this brand great over the years. Power, unflappable composure and durability in one discreet package. Sure, later AMG badged Benzes eclipsed it in horsepower, but there’s something special about these cars that the new AMG models don’t have. Perhaps it’s the connection with Porsche, the bespoke four-place interior or the flared fenders that captivate the mind. Whatever the attraction may be, this 500E is a rare sight on the roads of my ancestral home in Northern Portugal, in no small part that vehicles with larger engine sizes are taxed at a greater rate.

Comments closedThe stunning original condition, low mileage 1992 Volkswagen Corrado we wrote up last month is up on eBay in a no reserve auction; the owner needs to move on before the snow flies and it’s coming! This is certainly one of the best condition Corrados we’ve ever seen, but will remain quite affordable compared to similar low mileage M3s. These cars are destined to be classics and buying the best one you can find will certainly save you money long term!
