2007 Audi RS4

After B5 production ended, Audi continued to widen the pool for its small chassis. Joining the lineup for the B6 model was a new Cabriolet, and of course returning were the dynamic duo of the sedan and Avant models. Power now came from the BBK 4.2 liter 4 cam 40 valve all-aluminum V8. Fitting the motor into the small chassis necessitated dropping the belt drive in favor of the infamous rear-mounted chain. Still, though, with 340 horsepower on tap and weighing the same as the outgoing 250 horsepower V6 twin-turbo but now with instant torque, the S4 seemed top of the heap. But it was still playing catch-up with the outgoing E46 M3, so when it came to the B7, Audi offered even more spunk, bringing for the first time after three generations their first top-tier offering in the small chassis – the RS4.

At the heart of the new addition to the fleet was, of course, a special motor. Dubbed the BNS, Audi ditched the 5 valve heads but added FSI direct fuel injection. In reality, little was shared or untouched between the seemingly similar 4.2 V8s in the S4 and RS4, but the result of the fiddling was impressive. The engineers at Ingolstadt managed to crank a 420 horsepower screamer out, and coupled with the revised, more rear-biased quattro drivetrain in the B7, a completely different beast was born.

1995 Audi RS2 Avant

I love this car so much that I want to bust through that fake brick wall like the Kool-Aid Man. This car being a 1995 Audi RS2 Avant in what looks like Ragusa Green Metallic. Outside of the legendary RS Blue Pearl, this is my favorite color on the RS2 because it is very clearly green, but at night and in shadows can pass as black. All that is great, but I’m afraid the RS2 train is only gaining speed and I’m not going to be able to catch it.

1977 Mercedes-Benz 280SE

They’ll never be another Mercedes-Benz like the W116 S-Class. In the late 1960s when these were developed, the philosophy was just different. I’m really not trying to be the “They don’t make them like they used to!” guy, but these were just built differently. Bank vault-like doors are replaced by doors where closing as softly as possible is the goal. Don’t get me wrong, I love new cars and would absolutely love a new S-Class, but a properly sorted W116 is just so satisfying. That explains why I still have one in my modest collection.

Today’s car, a 1977 280SE up for sale in California, pre-dates the 300SD turbodiesel and is the little brother to the 450SEL and legendary 6.9. It isn’t a powerful car by any means, but sturdiness and longevity is the name of the game here. Which is probably why we are still checking it out some 46 years later.

2019 Mercedes-Benz A250 Hatchback

Welcome back to another installment of “This is how you get your car crushed.” This is a 2019 Mercedes-Benz A250 … hatchback up for sale in Bellingham, Washington. If you live in the US and are wondering why you’ve never seen these zipping around, it is because we were never blessed with him. You can see how having one of these for sale in the state of Washington could be a problem. This is very clearly a Canadian-market car that made its way down to Washington where it sits today at this dealership with a really bizarre logo that doesn’t give off any kind of Parteiadler vibes. Nope, nothing strange about that.

2015 BMW M4 Convertible Individual

Just a few weeks ago I took a look at an M4 coupe run through BMW’s Individual department:

2016 BMW M4 Coupe Individual

These wild colors have really proliferated over the last few years, and the result is that there are some pretty cool ones on the second-hand market. Case in point is today’s ’15 M4 convertible. It combines a neat color pallet (Peridot Green Metallic paint, Opal White leather, and dark red sycamore wood trim) with a manual gearbox and a convertible hardtop. Neat!
