1969 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3

Zero to 60mph in 6.3 seconds. The standing quarter mile in 14.6 seconds. Top speed of 142 mph. You’d be right in thinking that I could be describing a luxury car from the present day, but Mercedes-Benz achieved this performance at the end of the 1960s with this car: the 300SEL 6.3. Slotting the M100 V8 from the recently introduced 600 GrÃ¶sser limousine under the hood of the W109 S-Class created one beast of a sedan, one that could go head to head with muscle cars of the day yet still carry a few well-heeled passengers to the opera after it was done handling its business at a drag strip or stoplight. This 1969 300SEL 6.3 for sale in Michigan was sold through the European Delivery program and is currently on it’s fifth owner, having had a partial restoration back in the 1990s.

1969 BMW 2002

The term â€œyuppieâ€ didnâ€™t exist in the 1960s, but if any car from the era could have been associated with that subculture, it could probably be the 2002. Years after this model ceased production in 1976, subsequent 3 series models would be the object of desire for upwardly mobile professionals. The 2002, however, was the car that really put BMW on the map in the post war years and went on to represent something for which to strive for German families seeking to rebuild their lives. The 2002 would last long into the 1970s and pass the baton over to the E21 3 series after the 1976 model year. This earlier model is a nice find, as many of these lesser 2002s have been restomodded or done up as tributes to the faster, more upmarket 2002tii and turbo models.

1969 Porsche 911S

I remember years ago my father recanting the story about how he almost bought a used Porsche 911T in the early 1970s, only for his better sense to kick in and find something a bit less expensive. Enter, then, the Fiat 124 Spider and the eternal nagging of what might have been. Frequently I consider what a great investment a car like this would have been, if it were kept in the family all these years. Then again, considering a car like this as an investment would have missed the point at the time, as we would have used it as intended. Sure to satisfy that sports car hunger, this 1969 911S for sale in New York has benefitted form a bare metal respray and a sympathetic restoration.

1969 Porsche 912

We enjoy the 912 here at GCFSB. These cars capture the contours and beauty of the original 901 design and marry it to a fairly basic drivetrain. During their production the 912 was Porsche’s entry-level car. It appeared nearly identical to the higher-priced 911 but utilized a 1.6 flat-4 rather than the 911’s flat-6 and initially saw excellent sales. Today, prices on these cars remain relatively low, though we’ve noticed that they’ve slowly crept up, in part from the rapid appreciation of the long-hood 911. Still, for a ’60s Porsche the entry cost is typically reasonable. The example featured here is a 1-owner Ossi Blue 1969 Porsche 912 located in California. It predominantly retains its originality and comes along with just more than 82K miles.
