Here’s a car that brings with it its own sort of rarity. It won’t necessarily pique the interest of the collectors, nor will it attract crazy values, but it is definitely the sort of car we’re interested in around here. This 1982 Porsche 911SC, located in Portland, Oregon, has traveled more than 256,000 miles. If there were doubts about the potential longevity of these cars – and generally those doubts are minimal – a 911 like this shows the possibilities available to owners who make a point of maintaining their car properly. It is either a one- or two-owner car, the ad is slightly unclear on this, and while it isn’t entirely original I’m not sure that’s really what this car is about. Here we have car that has been driven, enjoyed, and cared for throughout its life and which has a history.

This is not déjà vu. Last week we featured this Guards Red 911SC Targa mostly to highlight an available option for those looking for a good quality driver and/or their first opportunity to try out a 911 without breaking the bank. The car we see here, an India Red 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa with 85,667 miles on it, falls into a similar category. The 1983 911SC generally is a good bet for those looking for value as it’s the last year prior to the introduction of the 3.2 Carrera, which tends to command a slight premium, so you get the most 911SC for your buck. This one is also helped by having my personal favorite interior: Cork Leather.

1 CommentWhile many of the 911s we feature here at GCFSB fall into the category of excellent condition, low mileage, and original examples, which typically come with a fairly high price tag, we also strive to find interesting driver-quality examples as they come across the market. Cars reflecting a high degree of care from their owners, but which also may possess a mechanical issue here and there or issues with their originality. And while the museum-quality collectors are always neat to see, it is the drivers that really grab our attention. These are cars with personal histories that have spent significant time doing precisely what they were intended: being driven. For that alone we love them. The car featured here appears to fall into just such a category: a Guards Red 1979 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in North Carolina, with 102,250 miles on it.

1 CommentA rather sad thing is happening within the Porsche world; the 911 is increasing in value so rapidly that its original dual purpose nature is being threatened. The 911 was, for some time, one of the few cars that really was effectively track-ready right out of the box. While it’s seldom been the all-out fastest circuit car available the 911 has been the dependable choice; lightweight with enough power to thrill you and enough idiosyncrasies to challenge you as a driver. Today I’ve rounded up two track-ready examples that still can be street driven; both 3.0s but with different yet classic interpretations of the 911 design, which is the winner?

1 CommentTypically, a post featuring a 1983 911SC will highlight its melding of classic design, reliability and performance with the reasonable value that these 911s tend to command. As the last year of 911SC production the 1983MY tends to be an especially good candidate for such illustrations. This post will not feature sure a car. Rather, here we have an immaculate Guards Red 1983 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in Southern California, with only 36,770 miles and a fairly high asking price. While the market for the 3.2 Carrera has accelerated across the board over the past year, values for the SC have increased at a much more gradual pace. We have, however, seen some excellent examples command higher values, while the higher-mileage, less-pristine, examples have held steady on the lower end on the scale.
