2003 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe with 963 Miles

This is kind of silly and I have quite a few questions, but this definitely has me intrigued. Here we have a Black on Black 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, located in San Diego, with a completely insane 963 miles on it. Yep, fewer than 70 miles per year. Usually posts about the 996TT are about performance value. This one is not about performance value. I am very curious whether it will sell though. The asking price – $110K – is quite high, though given some of the asking prices we’ve seen for highly collectible versions of the 996TT that price actually is lower than I’d expect. I’m still not sure it will sell, but this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

The last 996 Turbo S I featured turned out to be from a seller that we all weren’t too happy with. The pictures weren’t great and the price was way too high. That’s a bad combination of attributes. So let’s try again with one that certainly presents a lot better and from a seller that on the surface seems to be of a higher caliber. I can’t speak to price since it isn’t listed on the seller’s website, but my hope is that this reserve auction will shed plenty of light on where the market currently is valuing the Turbo S Coupe. I’ve seen a few more come up for sale in recent months compared to past years, and there were never many of these, so the time to pounce may be near.

Here we have a Slate Grey Metallic 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe, located in California, with Black leather interior, a 6-speed manual, and 31,437 miles on it.

2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe

Update 3/1/19: Some 15 months later, this ’05 911 Turbo S Coupe 6-speed is still available with a $15,000 reduction in price to $94,900 today.

Last week I featured this Cobalt Blue 996TT. I said in the post, and most of you agreed, that even with its rare and eye-catching color the price was too high given its mileage. Some of you thought it was way too high. Much of the problem is that it’s a Turbo without the X50 performance package, but priced like a Turbo with the X50 performance package. If you’re looking for performance value, you might as well maximize the performance side of that equation, right?

Another similar comparison is with the car we see here: an Atlas Grey Metallic 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe, located in Delaware, with Grey natural leather interior and 29,700 miles on it. Outside of its single-year production there isn’t too much difference between a Turbo S and an X50-equipped Turbo. While the comparison with the Cobalt Blue Turbo isn’t really direct given this Turbo’s much lower mileage it still makes for an interesting point to consider. And, of course, it is also interesting enough in its own right given how rarely we see a Turbo S Coupe come up for sale.

2003 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

We feature the 996TT pretty frequently. Even as prices have risen they remain fantastic performers for the money and definitely one of the best performance values you can find, especially when you find one with the factory X50 package raising those performance heights even higher. I wouldn’t say most of those we feature come in the best colors though. There’s the odd Speed Yellow or Guards Red Turbo and, of course, there was the very rare Signal Green Turbo S, but most are in the standard shades of gray and silver that seemingly dominated the 996 line.

This one clearly is an exception. Here is a Cobalt Blue Metallic 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, located in Georgia, with a Graphite Grey leather interior and 64,008 miles on it. Cobalt Blue was a standard color for the 996 so I have no idea why we don’t see more of them, but for some reason it seems we don’t. That makes this one a particularly pleasant find.

2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

We are always on the lookout for good performance value and as the writer who primarily features the Porsche 911 that isn’t always easy. At least pretty much all 911s provide nice performance, if not nice value! The go to for those looking has long been the 996TT, which for a while represented absolutely silly performance for the price. If you found one with the X50 package you could get supercar levels of performance for around $40K.

Those times have changed. The cat eventually was out of the bag and I guess enough people took notice that prices began to rise. With the air-cooled market rising as well that moved more buyers toward the later water-cooled models. Things haven’t exactly gotten out of hand, but with enough low-mileage examples available it’s pretty common to now see those X50-equipped models priced above $60K. Still good value, but there are other options not far away.

Nonetheless, the search continues and here’s one that comes with a good price: a Seal Grey Metallic 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe, located in Arizona, with 6-speed manual transmission and 99,522 miles on it.
