Alright, a crazy-low-mileage 911. We see these from time to time and they’re always a marvel in their own special way. Seeing a 911SC with this sort of mileage is almost bewildering as I wonder how it is we got here. I certainly wouldn’t have considered these a collectible at the time, but the buyer of this final-year 1983 Porsche 911SC Coupe certainly must have. Either that or some peculiar circumstance lead to it rarely being driven early on and then after a number of years someone packed it away in storage hoping for long-term profits. Apparently that time has come.

The exterior color is Platinum Metallic, the same color Porsche used for the special Weissach Edition released in 1980. It became a standard color in the years following the Weissach’s release. Unlike the Weissach, the interior of this 911SC is a fairly standard Black. But this 911 isn’t about the color, as nice as it may be. It’s all about condition and mileage, which appear excellent and extremely low. There may also be some interesting options. More on that below.

1983 Porsche 911SC Coupe

In Washington, we were experiencing some sort of weather condition classified as freezing fog this morning. It brought a lovely and slippery icy glaze to just about everything. I imagine it’s the type of thing we might see rising off a glacier in the South Atlantic while David Attenborough tells us about the journey of a penguin. This 911 would be right at home.

This is a Glacier Blue 1983 Porsche 911SC Coupe, located in North Carolina, with Black (or is it Navy?) interior and 134,671 miles on it. My question about the interior color should be apparent in the pictures. We don’t see enough to really tell the color though the seats definitely look black. However, the seller has referred to it as a navy interior and we can probably assume the seller has more familiarity with it than we do. Regardless, it’s the exterior color that is (mostly) the attraction here. It’s a rare color and one that shows quite well on the SC.

Aubergine 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe

Almost every Friday when I was in my early 20s, living in Atlanta, a group of friends and I would go to dinner at a Chinese restaurant. There were a decent number to choose from in the neighborhood and all quite good so we had some nice options. At the time, I was vegetarian and I briefly decided to order the same dish each week. This was in part because I really liked the dish and also in part because I wanted to try each restaurant’s variation. That dish: eggplant with garlic sauce. I loved it.

I have chosen this entirely non-car-related diversion as my introduction to this 911. I still love eggplant with garlic sauce and do order it now and then. More to the point, I also love the color, which here adorns this 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe located in San Francisco. Aubergine, meaning, of course, ‘Eggplant’, is one of my favorite early Porsche colors and it’s always a joy to see it. Unlike other early pastels that I like so much, Aubergine is a little darker, but its purple hues remain fairly bright and vibrant. It’s not quite a pastel, but it is still very, very, pretty.

1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

I’ve been looking at a decent number of high-end and modern Porsches lately – something I’ve enjoyed more than I realized when it comes to the modern cars – but it’s time to, at least briefly, return to the roots of my 911 obsession: the classic 911. We won’t be moving into the territory of incredibly reasonable pricing because this one is pretty expensive, but it is the ethos of the machine that draws me back. In truth it is the 911SC that really started it all for me, but the 3.2 Carrera is a close enough sibling that I tend to group the two models together as one long evolutionary development.

Here we will move right to the end of 3.2 Carrera production for one of the best looking examples I’ve come across in a while: a Guards Red 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, located in Ft. Lauderdale, with a Beige interior (more on that later) and 65,980 miles on it. It seems nearly the entire car has been replaced, restored, and/or rebuilt making this Carrera look almost factory new. Outside of a few ultra-low-mileage examples I cannot recall one whose condition looked this good.

1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Slantnose

With the January auctions approaching I always like to check in on what sorts of interesting cars will be crossing the blocks this year. Even though this auction is still a couple weeks away, I couldn’t resist posting this now. I could be wrong, but I think this is the only air-cooled 911 model I have never featured. It’s one of the rarest 911 models there is. We’ve featured the North American only Turbo S Package car previously, of which there were only 17 produced. For this model there are even fewer.

This is a Japanese market 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Slantnose, also known as the X83 Turbo S. And, yes, I do mean Slantnose and not Flatnose. Of the various markets only Japan received the 935-derived slantnose that was commonly found on the 930. The rest of the world received either the 968-derived flatnose or the standard 964 front of the Turbo S Package. Only 10 Slantnose Turbo S were produced, all nearly identical with Polar Silver Metallic exterior and Black interior. The biggest difference among the 10 was the choice of rear wing: you could have either the standard Turbo rear spoiler or for a little extra money you could choose the spoiler from the 3.8 Carrera RS. 4 buyers chose the RS wing.

I have never seen one for sale. Until now. This one will be up for auction at Gooding and Company’s Scottsdale Auctions on January 19 & 20.
