Austrian Special Forces 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280GE

Just when I thought I’ve seen everything. Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens have had a long history of use by police and military units, but this one might take the cake as one of the most unusual special builds I’ve seen on one of these. This is a 1984 280GE that was outfitted for the police tactical unit EKO Cobra of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior. Built by the Austrian company Achleitner, this G is not only fully armored and bulletproof, it also has a full 360-degree gunner seat, a roof turret and port holes out of all the pieces of two-inch thick glass. All of this while looking like a somewhat civilian G-Wagen. Whatever EKO Cobra did or planned to do with this thing, they weren’t playing around. Now somehow and someway, this literal tank of a W460 made its way to Massachusetts and is up for sale to the general public. The thing is, this 280GE has to be close useless in most situations and at this asking price, will have even the biggest G fans scratching their heads.

2011 Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG with B6 Armoring

A number of weeks ago I looked at a heavily armored 1995 Mercedes-Benz S600 that was built for none other than the Sultan of Brunei. It was an 8,700 pound tank of a car that probably is on par with some tanks as to how much combat fire it can withstand. Today, I came across another literally bulletproof Mercedes that can handle everything just short of armor piecing rounds. This 2011 G55 AMG that is built to a B6 level of armoring is originally a vehicle from the Middle East and somehow is now in California. Just like the S600 you would think that this is just another standard G55 that is hopping around Los Angeles. Then you open the doors to see that clearly isn’t the case.

Bi-Bulletproof: 2005 Mercedes-Benz S600s

File this, or rather these, under the “You don’t see that everyday!” category. What we are looking at today is not one, but two Mercedes-Benz S600 limousines that have B7 level armor. Back in October I looked at another armored W220, but that one was only good for a B4 certification â€” good for a few rounds from a handgun. The B7 in these cars? They will take fire from full metal jacket assault rifles and those pesky suicide bombers as well. But who would need this kind of protection? You probably won’t be that surprised.

If you guessed these cars were in the Middle East, congratulations! According to the seller, these were used by the Al Nahyan royal family of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Taking a look at the paint colors of these cars and peeking inside fully supports these being in UAE because of the absolute flashiness and general attitude of being as over the top as possible. The interesting thing about these cars is that despite the seller saying the are 2005s, everything about them tells me these are pre-facelift cars based on the bumpers and headlights/taillights. I can buy these being 2005s if Trasco decided during the armoring process just to use the pre-facelift parts that were already armored instead of spending the time and the money redoing a bunch of work only for it to slightly change the look of the car. I wish the seller would have attached a picture of the center stack so I could tell for sure what year these cars are.

The price to take home both of these rolling vaults on wheels is a whopping $250,000. It seems crazy at first, but doing the math here you are looking at over $100,000 each to get these up to a B7 level when they were new. Now add in the actual cost of buying two S600s at the time for over $100,000 each and it’s probably creeping close to $500,000 when it was all said and done. Not a problem if you are royal family of Abu Dhabi, but for anyone else? This is really fast way to blow $250,000. I can’t imagine the increased wear and tear on these cars because of the extra weight it has to haul around and the W220 S600 isn’t exactly a great buy if you are looking for a car that is worth buying. So who is the market for these cars? Other governments? Private citizens that need an almost unnecessary level of protection? Whoever it is, I hope they like cranberry colored suede.

1996 BMW 750iL

Have a lot of enemies? Live in a really bad neighborhood? Hang out with known undesirables? Or just generally paranoid? Then look no further, we have found your car. This is certainly something you don’t see every day, a fully armored, long wheelbase, V12, 7-series. These cars were pretty rare in the US market, and were mainly reserved for the wealthy, with an original MSRP of just under $100K.

If you were the member of the 1% that made their money by stepping on a few toes, the full armor treatment was a must. Judging by the list of previous owners, I’m really surprised that this car has not actually seen fire. The lack of bullet wounds on this car may be attributed to the 5.4L V12 that made 322 bhp and 361 lb/ft of torque getting this land yacht to safety. No matter what your motivations, or social situation, this black fortress is a cool way to act like a boss.

This car is immaculate. Car fax will tell you this car was owned by Ronald McDonald Corp. Then the CIA out of Langley, VA. Have service records. Car is black. Sunroof. Fully loaded. Leather heated interior. Black. Low miles. I hate to sell but need the money asap. So price is firm. Car is classified as armoured limousine which makes it 4 inches longer I was told. Cannot upload pics but car is a beauty. BBS rims. Have original tail lights but led lights are on the car now. Looks sharper!!

I can send pics via text or email. Call if serious. 919 618 5177 Also for more info and yes it is really bullet proof! Look at windows!!Or can give VIN for car fax for you. Has roll up shades, back roll up is temperamental meaning works when it wants to, that will need to be fixed. Nice car. OMG, we hate to sell.

From the description, it sounds like this car has the usual quirks of a 16 year old car. The asking price on this car is on par with that of a well kept 750iL, so you’re basically getting the armor package for free!  At $5,800 you can’t ask for more than that, except maybe an armed driver to go along with it.
