I don’t feature the 968 all that often. I do, however, tend to feature just about anything I come across in Riviera Blue. I simply can’t turn away from them. Here we have a 1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet painted in that bright blue. This one also has the very desirable 6-speed manual transmission. Riviera Blue often is associated with the 993 and we rarely think much of it when it comes to other Porsches. But this 968 shows the color off almost as well and even if its sporting pretensions are not quite elevated to the same level as the last of the air-cooled 911s, I’m sure this one will have no trouble attracting attention in a crowd of Porsche enthusiasts. It looks in very good condition and the mileage even is pretty reasonable when we consider it is nearly 25 years old.

The 928 gets the vast majority of the love when it comes to Porsche’s front-engined machines and there’s very good reason for that. The 968 provides its own unique appeal and definitely creates quite an ardor among its fans. And relative to a ’90s 928 prices tend to be much more attainable.

1989 Porsche 930 Cabriolet

There is something wonderful about the excesses of certain ’80s automobiles. I assume at the time this was all taken quite seriously, but looking back now it is always good for a laugh. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t like these cars. In fact, I like them quite a lot, but driving a convertible with a massive spoiler supporting its huge rear surely can’t elicit feelings of seriousness. It’s not as head-turning as a Slantnose, but still these 930s are ridiculous in the best possible ways. The only thing that can make these better is when its excesseses are turned up even more. If you’re going to punt subtlety, then why not go all the way?

This Porsche does just that. Here we have a Slate Grey Metallic 1989 Porsche 930 Cabriolet, located in San Diego, with a special order Lobster Red interior and a whole host of additions by the tuning mavens at RUF. The RUF bits are mostly of the cosmetic variety so there isn’t much in the way of additional performance to be had here, but the 930 does just fine as standard and those cosmetic enhancements help this 930 stand apart a little more. As if it needed much help. I love it!

I don’t come across a lot of what I would consider reasonably priced 993s. As the last of the air-cooled 911s the 993 always has been pretty highly prized and it seems like prices never really dipped into the reasonable territory of most of its predecessors or its successor. Well, especially its successor. This one, however, doesn’t seem priced too badly. With an asking price of $48K it’s not inexpensive by any means, but relative to a lot of other air-cooled options these days that’s not too bad.

Here we have a paint-to-sample Oak Green Metallic 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Boise, with a Classic Grey leather interior and 93,310 miles on it. To make it just that little bit more special it is also equipped with a set of the very desirable hard-back sport seats.

2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet

This 911 absolutely screams “Beach!” to me. Of course, with 580 hp coming from its 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six this Turbo S will scream just about anywhere. But all of that power isn’t really what attracted me. The 911 Turbo S is Porsche’s ultimate luxury performance machine and in Cabriolet form it certainly slants further to the luxury tourer side than a Coupe would. The power always will be there lurking beneath your right foot in case you ever need it, but for those who want all of that power and fewer amenities Porsche offers the GT2. That’s not what this 911 is about.

And it is in that regard that I think this Turbo S was put together quite well. There’s a nice attention to detail in this build and for those looking to cruise and be seen I don’t know that you’d find a better option from Porsche. This is a Miami Blue 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, located in Houston, with Chalk over Graphite Blue interior and 8,760 miles on it. With over 8K miles and barely a year old its previous owner certainly seems to have enjoyed it!

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

I almost feel like I’ve taken a hiatus from classic 911s of late. So I shall return to them with this Guards Red 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, located in Massachusetts, with 46,900 miles on it. We see Guards Red pretty frequently on the 3.2 Carrera, less so on the 964, and then even less on the 993. After that? It almost seems to disappear. We do occasionally see red Porsches still today, especially as a PTS option, but it’s certainly a color that seems much less in style than it once did.

Here in the District we’ve been mired in an interminable cloud of rain with plenty of lightning and wind thrown in for good measure. It has been the sort of rain that doesn’t even allow for the barest hint of the sun’s existence. It has me dreaming of the days when blue sky and bright sunshine will return and that has me thinking about Cabriolets again. In the meantime all we can do is plan and wait and try to stay dry.
