When it comes to the world of the 928, most people think about the repair bills associated with ownership rather than the premier grand tourer from Germany in the 1980s. So advanced was the design that it basically ran into the 1990s still looking quite fresh. Granted, the interior colors and plastic materials are quick to date it, but if you look at the overall layout it is not dissimilar to many supercars of today, and it’s especially notable when you see how antiquated the 911’s dash layout from the same time was. Today it has gotten a bit rare to see early 928s as many suffered from neglect and they’re difficult and expensive to resurrect; but in spite of an apparent engine failure this light blue metallic example has weathered the ages very well, and with a replacement heart and pristine exterior and interior looks like it just awaits a new owner. The best part? Of course, it’s a manual:

About a month ago I wrote up a AMG-modified grey market 500SEC that scared people with it’s chromed Pentas, blacked out windows and questionable history. But perhaps if you can get by the again all-caps ad copy, this cranberry-colored grey market 1983 will be the one for you. Sporting the requisite AMG bits and period correct color-matched wheels, this 500SEC certainly looks the part – and the Moby Dick sized stack of receipts may mean this is the not-so-white whale you’ve been looking for:

35 CommentsIn the crazy world of Euro tuners, Gemballa stands out for some pretty crazy modifications that are sometimes in questionable taste. But in the 1980s you couldn’t flare a car enough, and Gemballa was one of the best. Gemballa actually made several different body kits for the 928, with seemingly few being the same. This particular model sports some of the wider flares and a large enough wing to make your local Lamborghini Countach jealous; mainted in dark blue paint and sitting over some seriously wide BBS wheels it looks ready for a filming session fo the next Rush music video:

Comments closedWe saw this stellar looking Daytona Violet European-spec M5 here in the U.S. last September. We loved the 3.8 motor, rare color and M-cloth interior – items not found on U.S. versions in general. Interestingly the car has moved to Wisconsin and has re-appeared on Ebay from a new seller with a new description, now at $15,990 “Buy It Now”. It’s about on par with good examples of the E34 chassis in terms of pricing, but this car has an interesting history; it makes me wonder why the new owner is flipping it so quickly and having added only a few miles. Second time’s the charm?
