Alright, let’s move away from green, but we’ll still keep things vibrant. This one also will be much more reasonably priced. Here we have a Guards Red 1982 Porsche 911SC Targa, located in Oregon, with 133,700 miles on it. If we want to see the relationship between the 911SC and yesterday’s 930, they both utilize a variant of Porsche’s 3.0 liter flat-six. Porsche took some of the lessons learned from development of the Turbo and applied it to this naturally aspirated 3.0 liter and through that was able to excavate itself from the issues that plagued the 2.7-liter engine that preceded it. The 3.0 liter is a stout and reliable engine when shown proper care and we’ve seen plenty with mileage exceeding 200K. Granted, some of those have been rebuilt, but it’s still a fine engine and a sound base for a sports coupe. Those looking at a 911SC now should feel secure knowing that these are very good engines.

1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

We’ve shown a couple of interesting green coupes so far this week and I’d like to add another to the mix. Strictly on color this Emerald Green Metallic 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera looks similar to the Mercedes-AMG GT R Andrew posted yesterday. The similarities mostly stop there, though there is a certain spiritual kinship between the 930 and most any AMG machine. The performance of either can be brutal – in the most positive sense of the term! – with dynamics that require your full attention any time you want to accelerate or brake hard. The technology helping direct the power of course differs markedly as do the levels of refinement. But if you want something you’ve got to grab by the scruff of the neck and then hold on for dear life I’d imagine either one of these could provide those thrills. So if this sort of green is your color, then here’s another option. And it’ll probably even be cheaper! It’s not often I get to say that about any 930, let alone a ’76.

Tuner Tuesday: 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe RAUH-Welt Begriff

I’ve featured a few of RAUH-Welt Begriff’s Porsche creations, but this one might be my favorite. It’s an interesting mix of old and new, borrowing its colors and interior aesthetic from vintage Porsche hues and fabrics, then wrapping that in a body that is anything but vintage 911. In addition, unlike many of RWB’s builds this one has the performance to complement the wildly aggressive design.

For this build they used a 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe. The design remains unmistakably that of Akira Nakai with its swooping hand-formed curves, very wide fenders, and huge wing. Under the hood this is a very different beast with the standard 3.6 liter flat-six now built to 3.8 liter RSR specs. I’m always curious if such statements mean precisely what they say because I believe that would mean around 350 hp from this engine. At the very least we can assume there’s going to be a decent bit of extra power going to the rear wheels.

Update 12/24/2017 – The price of the Targa has dropped $10,000 to $89,995.

Believe it or not it’s been a few months since I featured a long-hood 911. I guess there haven’t been many lately to really grab my attention. So why not double up with two? Albert Blue is a really nice non-metallic blue that was available on these early 911s and as it happens there are two available right now, both from the same model year and same 911 model. But one is a Coupe and the other a Targa. So if you like the color, now you just have to pick your body style!

Let’s start with the Coupe: a 1970 Porsche 911T Coupe, located in Alabama, with 69,814 miles on it. It’s been fully restored, is numbers matching, and looks great.

1963 Porsche 356C Cabriolet

While I seldom remove the top on my convertible to enjoy some open top motoring I do occasionally yearn for those days. My favorite time of year for doing so has always been in the Fall. Living in one of the more humid parts of the country, Fall weather brings with it a welcome crispness and obviously the array of colors on display just above you in the trees makes even the dullest of roads much more enjoyable. Combine a good road with that crisp air and the fall colors and you have some of the best driving you can find.

The only way to really increase the greatness of that natural beauty is to enjoy it in a car that is equally as beautiful. Here we see just that: a Ruby Red 1963 Porsche 356C Cabriolet, located in New York, with Tan interior and a stated 21,804 miles on it. Just thinking about it makes me want to grab the keys and head out to the mountains for some driving.
