1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera

This is one of my favorite cars to come across: an Ice Green Metallic 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera. I realize that’s really specific, but the combination of the 3.0 liter 911 Turbo with this color really works for me and it always grabs my attention immediately. For my tastes this one is also helped by its Cinnamon interior, which has just enough darkness to it to provide the right contrast to that light green exterior. I even like the somewhat quirky and, in this application, subtle “Turbo” graphics that run the length of the car. I can’t really vouch for the seller’s claim that it is the single-most beautiful early Turbo to exist, but it would certainly rank highly.

1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

As much as we enjoy featuring very rare and amazing 911s we’re also always on the lookout for the much more pervasive and inexpensive examples that are in driver-quality condition. Yet, we still hope those too can be of the interesting sort with the added bonus that far more readers can aspire to own them even if they never really qualify as inexpensive. As usual that sort of search brings us to the ’80s where the 911SC and early examples of the 3.2 Carrera still dominate the landscape of interesting, relatively inexpensive, and fun air-cooled 911s on the market. This Ruby Red 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe may make for just such an option.

2004 Porsche Carrera GT

We don’t see a lot of Porsche’s Carrera GT on these pages unless one comes around that really grabs our attention. Such was the case with the last example we featured, a stunning Carrera GT painted in Lamborghini’s Aranacio Borealis. Unsurprisingly, that one came with a sky-high price. On its surface this Basalt Black 2004 Carrera GT doesn’t seem to possess quite the unique appeal of that metallic orange. And, frankly, it doesn’t. However, I can rarely recall coming across a Black Carrera GT. I know I have, but there is something about this one that takes it to another level; it possesses an aggressiveness and a level of menace sometimes found lacking in these beautiful machines. At $685K, it’s also pretty reasonably priced within the rarefied air of Carrera GTs.

1983 Porsche 930

I’m going to get back to basics today with this Black 1983 Porsche 930, located in Boston, with 48,997 miles on it. A Black 930 is a frequent resident of these pages and even for someone like me who really enjoys brightly colored cars these still possess their own singular allure. Of course, the 930 itself is far from basic machinery and provides a combination of performance and luxury rivaled by few cars in its day. While they are eclipsed by modern supercars in each regard they possess a raw ferocity that commands a driver’s attention and rewards those who master their sometimes difficult dynamics. A heavy does of rear power will do that. This particular 930 was never available in the US market due to Porsche ceasing to send them over from 1980-1985. But examples from those years can be had now and this one looks in nice shape.

1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

We’ll step back from the dizzying heights of the Carrera RS to have a look at a more standard Carrera. That shared name is important as it helps link the performance pedigree of each model, even if each truly represents rather different performance standards. While the Carrera RS resurrected the Carrera name, that name would quickly disappear once again, found only on the limited production Carrera 2.7 and 3.0, which shared a similar ethos to the original RS. For the base 911 we were back to the 911 and 911S, both of which suffered from emissions restrictions. It would not be until 1984 that we would see the Carrera name once again, and this time Porsche had no intention of utilizing it for a single special model and then retiring it. The Carrera would be the standard moniker as it has remained to this day. About the car here: this is a Platinum Metallic 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with Burgundy leather interior and just under 85K miles on it. This would be the first year of the 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet and only the second year of 911 Cabriolet production in general. For those looking for an early 911 Cabriolet there aren’t very many earlier than the 3.2 Carrera.
