I get it. You want to tell your friends that on the weekends you race a Guards Red Porsche Turbo S. But your bank account tells your friends that a Kia Soul is more your speed. What’s a Porschephile to do? Look to the watercooled transaxle cars, that’s what you do. Though prices of 944 Turbo S models have been soaring, if you’re less interested in a pristine, low mile street worthy example, a track prepared car can provide you with the thrills of boosted ownership at a much more reasonable rate. Today’s example shows us why:

2005 Porsche Carrera GT – Arancio Borealis – 1 of 1

Let’s dream a little bit. Through some serendipity there happen to be a couple of very expensive – and special – Porsche supercars currently making the rounds and it seemed as good a time as any to take a break from some reasonably attainable cars and drift into the stratosphere. Over the next few days I have some very eye-catching Porsches to go through and we’ll begin with perhaps the most eye-catching of all: a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT with a metallic paint-to-sample exterior done in Arancio Borealis – I think in common parlance it’s Pearl Orange. It’s said to be 1 of 1 and I wouldn’t find that hard to believe. If a standard Carrera GT simply isn’t exciting enough from the outside this color will certainly draw all the attention you should ever desire. It sits with a mere 260 miles on the clock, with the current owner claiming to have never driven it – a situation I could not even fathom, but here we are.

1994 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 30 Jahre Edition

The Porsche 911 has been around for so long that there are numerous special editions attached to its history. One which we’ll highlight today is a 911 that the US market never saw, the 964 based 30 Jahre. These turbo look 911s were built in honor of the car’s 30th anniversary. While 911 of these “Jubi” editions were supposed to be built, only 896 have been proven to have been produced. In addition to the turbo look body, a few features help one distinguish a Jubi, including the titanium inlay on the shift knob, woven 911 lettering on the backs of the rear backrests and a titanium plaque on the rear shelf with the car’s production number. Only a few colors were offered, with Viola Metallic being the most popular. Other hues included Amethyst Metallic, Arctic Silver Metallic and a handful of Black Metallic and Guards Red cars. This Viola Metallic example for sale in the United Kingdom has just crossed the 20,000 mile mark and comes with a hefty price tag.

1989 Porsche 928S4

There are a few dealers out there who seem to consistently defy the odds. It seems that every week they turn up with an improbably good condition, improbably low mile rare to find vehicle for sale. One in particular has been the subject of several cars we’ve featured – the eBay seller “european-cars”. The photography is always slick looking with the cars appearing to be near new. Since we search the web nearly every day and so do a lot of you, we’ve previously wondered aloud where some of these cars come from. Recently, I’ve been having a discussion with one of our readers when he sent in a few of this seller’s offerings. If everything on the surface is to be believable and the cars are as represented, then they really do appear to be some of the best examples on the market all focused in one dealer. Everything always works, there is little to no wear, and the cars are always reported to be garage kept and they are priced accordingly, usually right at the top of the value range for the models. The eBay feedback score is 100%, replete with dozens of stories of satisfied customers. Then, why are we always a bit weary when one of these listings pops up? Is it really too good to be true?

2003 Porsche 911 Turbo X50

2003 Porsche 911 Turbo X50

Last week we featured a pretty nice Seal Grey 996TT that sold for $44,100. As usual, it was a very nice performance value. As part of that post I spoke of the possibility of these cars attracting the notice of collectors and mentioned that I felt that notice would be – at least for a time – limited to interesting colors and X50-equipped cars. Here we have just such an example with mileage similar to last week’s 996TT and a similar asking price to where the Seal Grey example sold. This Midnight Blue Metallic 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo, located in Texas with 52,694 miles on it, probably has too much mileage to really grab a collector’s attention, but at its current asking price it should fall as another really nice value and all things considered should be a better value than last week’s example.
