Very few new cars I examine here get me really going. Usually I take a look at them because they are interesting in one way or another, but after that they are somewhat forgettable. Today’s car however, a 2021 Porsche 718 GT4, speaks to me in every way. It is paint-to-sample Oak Green Metallic with silver wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes, and the carbon bucket seats with yellow deviated stitching. Where do I sign?
I’m a mega-fan of everything green on cars. Even the wilder shades of green I’m all for, but I feel like they have their place on certain cars. Today’s car, a 2019 Porsche 911 Turbo S, is finished in paint-to-sample Olive Green and has nearly $35,000 in other options for a giant sticker price of $233,255. However, I don’t know if I am in love with this one – let me explain why:
Oh Ruby Star – a color that would draw attention at a clown convention. Some look at it and say it’s a lighter shade of red, while others will tell you it is straight up pink. To me it sure seems to brush right up against pink, but others will disagree. Personally, I love that this color exists and applaud Porsche for keeping it in the paint gun over all these generations of cars. Today, we have one of the hottest new Porsches, the 718 Spyder, sprayed in this very expensive paint-to-sample color. Although, I’m not sure I love it on this body. Let’s take a look:
For my personal cars, I like them as unique and as special as possible. Naturally this can be difficult to achieve if you don’t have an unlimited budget and certain cars can be hard to find, but this is something I try to seek. Of course that doesn’t mean wrap the car in gold leaf, and we can all agree that certain color combos aren’t exactly beautiful, but you know what I mean. Today’s car, a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, is right in my wheelhouse when it comes to being unique. It certainly looks like a normal black 996 Turbo, which is true until you open the doors.
One thing that doesn’t make sense to me is the Porsche 993 market. A handful of years ago they had a sudden rise and seemed to settled at prices are were somewhat understandable. The Turbo was the king of the hill, then you had the C2S and C4S, followed by the regular C2 and C4, and bringing up the rear was any Cabriolet or Tiptronic gearbox car. Now in 2021, things have reached insanity levels. Any 993 Turbo is going to start at minimum $150,000 and have to potential to go well over $200,000, while the C2S and C4S are starting at $100,000 and making their way towards that $150,000 mark. The rest of the lineup? Thankfully, they’re not drafting to closely. Maybe a rising tide doesn’t lift all boats?
