2021 Porsche 718 Spyder

Oh Ruby Star – a color that would draw attention at a clown convention. Some look at it and say it’s a lighter shade of red, while others will tell you it is straight up pink. To me it sure seems to brush right up against pink, but others will disagree. Personally, I love that this color exists and applaud Porsche for keeping it in the paint gun over all these generations of cars. Today, we have one of the hottest new Porsches, the 718 Spyder, sprayed in this very expensive paint-to-sample color. Although, I’m not sure I love it on this body. Let’s take a look:

I think sometimes we romanticize these classic colors to the point of wanting them on new cars, but sometimes they just don’t work. I think mostly because these new cars are about twice the size of the old cars, and therefore you have a lot more to paint. It’s like eating ice cream; a pint is just enough, but a gallon will leave you sick on the floor. I think we are nearing a gallon on this car. The rear clam shell is a just a massive body panel with nothing breaking it up, so you are left staring at a ton of Ruby Star. Thankfully they didn’t put any accents in the interior and just left it plain black, so that helps a little.

This one is for sale in Tokyo, so it will have no problem finding a buyer at any price. But I can probably speak for myself here and say I couldn’t commit to this one. Love the color – just not on this body.

well… the good thing is that the original owner did not pay extra for ruby star interior trim…

Its pink. But that’s ok! These aren’t particularly good looking cars to my eye, so why not spice it up. You mention this color was very expensive, yet don’t list the amount (or maybe I can’t read). How much?

I think the color works well on this car. It’s a small car. Not huge like the newer 911’s. Very unique looking, and fun to see.

I love it, although not enough to buy it if given the chance. The price of PTS on these cars was around $12K in the US – no clue what they charged in Japan.

I love it, although not enough to buy it if given the chance. PTS was about a 12K option on these in the US, no clue what it cost in the Japanese market.

Great color for a 964 RS but I could never drive a pink car… also I’d get the regular sport seats instead of these medieval torture buckets. Other than that a great Porsche.
